Sprog is a graphical tool that anyone can use to
build programs by plugging parts together. In
Sprog jargon, the parts are known as 'gears' and
they are assembled to make a 'machine'. Gears are
selected from a palette and dragged onto the Sprog
workbench, where they can be connected together.
Options can be set using a properties dialog on
each gear. When assembly is complete, the machine
can be run, reconfigured, or re-run.
Changes:
Speed improvements were made. A new "Text Input"
gear was added. Many regression tests were added.
Numerous bugs identified by the tests were fixed.
The code base was overhauled to improve modularity
and testability. The machine now reports elapsed
time when finished.

12/15/2002 03:29 AMFirst off, may god have mercy on the Hard Drive of MacUpdate.com!
They have experienced a hard drive failure and don't have a backup!
Oh my god!
I've experienced this sort of thing before. Thats why I have RAID 5
in my home computer and another external drive for backing up, as well
as DVD backups once every other month.
One thing I didn't think about was my moveable type database! In
one quick swoosh it could all be gone. How much would that suck? All
those blogmarks, LOST!
So here is how you export your entries from the command line. This
would be the same as if you went into moveable type's import/export
section and exported them.
curl -d username=yourusername -d password=yourpassword -d
blog_id=3 -d __mode=export "http://noeljackson.com/mt/mt.cgi" -o
~/Desktop/entries.bak
mysqldump is not an option for me, because I can not ssh into my
hosts box and I can't do a remote backup (it just doesn't work for me,
the username keeps calling in my localhost name, and the remote
machine says im not a local user!). This command will also work for
people using the Berkley DB with MT.
Backup often or regret it.

bytes of new information was stored on print, film, magnetic and

The U.C. researchers estimated that stored
information had doubled since its last study, which looked at the year

The report, "How Much Information? 2003," estimates
that the majority of new information was stored on magnetic media such

Pretec Electronics
Corporation, apparently unaware that more than eight competing formats
already exist in this market, has developed a new flash memory card
called the C-Flash. Smaller than a dime, Pretec seems to be gambling
on the "hope your customers lose your product and don't learn from
their mistakes" business model. Cards with capacities up to 1GB will
be available by June, and they're sampling them in mobile phones,
which is just about the only place I'd want to see one. Honestly,
though, there comes a point (perhaps when you require magnification
equipment) when it's just too small. A note to these
companies with the perpetual smaller-is-better mentalities: Just
because I might one day be able to carry all of my media collection as
well as the Library of Congress on a card the size of an eyelash
doesn't mean I'll want to, dig?
While on the topic of Flash Memory formats, now seems like a good
time to mention LIVEdigitally's Flash Card roundup, wherein they break
down the Flash Jungle into small, manageable pieces.

09/24/2002 05:08 AMMacromedia now can connect to
legacy applications that were built
in Java but did not support Flash, Gruber said.
Macromedia Flash Remoting MX also includes new capabilities for record
set handling and databinding to simplify development.
An early user of Macromedia Flash Routing MX for Java said the product
had eliminated a lot of legwork as far as code writing.
"We love it for doing applications that have Flash interfaces. It
definitely streamlines a lot of development," said Alon Salant,
principal at Carbon Five, a San Francisco developer of custom J2EE
applications.
Carbon Five builds a services-based architecture and uses Flash
Remoting to assemble a series of business functionalities, Salant
said.
Before Flash Remoting, Carbon Five built solutions that sent objects
serialized as XML, and then sent them to Flash. Flash Remoting MX for
Java "lets you talk to objects between Flash and the server, which is
great," said Salant.
