Harry You will replace longtime Chief Financial Officer Jeff Henley,
who took on the job of Oracle's board chairman in January.
EstateWorks™, a company offering web-based technology that makes banks
and law firms more profitable, today announced that Vince Ciampi has
joined the company to run its national sales efforts. [PRWEB Apr 15,
2005]
Oracle Corp. has tapped Juergen Rottler, formerly with Hewlett-Packard
Co. (HP), to head its growing On Demand unit, a division that sells
software-hosting services.
Juergen Rottler, who led HP's growth in the public, health and
education sectors, will focus on making Oracle's On Demand hosted
services "as strategic to our customers as Oracle's software
business."
A consolidating market and an economic recovery during the past year
have made future acquisition deals in the near term more likely for
Oracle, according to company President Charles Phillips.
Oracle appointed Gregory Maffei, a former
Microsoft executive, as president. He will also take on the role of
chief financial officer from July, the company said Friday.

Maffei joined Microsoft in 1993 and took over as CFO there in July
1997, leaving in January 2000 to become chief executive officer of
360Networks.
At Oracle, his responsibilities will include the legal, human
resources, manufacturing and distribution departments, and global real
estate, the company said.
Oracle already has two presidents: Safra Catz and Charles
Phillips.
Catz had been acting CFO since March, when Harry You left after
just eight months in the job to become CEO of IT services company
BearingPoint. She joined Oracle from investment bank Donaldson, Lufkin
& Jenrettein April 1999, and was named president in January 2004. She
is responsible for global operations, according to the company's Web
site.
Phillips joined the company in May 2003 from investment advisor
Morgan Stanley, where he was managing director of its technology
group, and became president of Oracle in January 2004. He has
responsibility for global field operations including consulting,
marketing, sales, alliances, channels, customer programs, and
corporate strategy, according to the Web site.
Maffei's appointment will not affect the responsibilities of Catz
and Phillips, according Oracle spokesman Bob Wynne. Oracle will
continue to have three presidents, each focusing on different aspects
of the company's operations, he said.

Was Microsoft Word Used to Frame
President Bush?
09/10/2004 08:58 AMAuthenticity of new Bush military papers
questioned: The question of whether the damaging military records
on President Buish are accurate or not is coming down to a Word
formatting question.
Independent document examiner Sandra Ramsey Lines said the memos
looked like they had been produced on a computer using Microsoft Word
software. Lines, a document expert and fellow of the American Academy
of Forensic Sciences, pointed to a superscript — a smaller,
raised "th" in "111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron" — as
evidence indicating forgery.
Microsoft Word automatically inserts superscripts in the same style
as the two on the memos obtained by CBS, she said.
"I'm virtually certain these were computer generated," Lines said
after reviewing copies of the documents at her office in Paradise
Valley, Ariz. She produced a nearly identical document using her
computer's Microsoft Word software.
Finally there's some value for knowing the 95% of stuff in Word
that no one ever uses or cares about. Who knew that knowing that
could change the course of history?
I demand apologies from all the people who made fun of me for
exploring all the buried submenus in Word! I have the power to bring
the President down, people! Don't tempt me!
