iboom-4G_lo.jpg imageDigital Lifestyle Outfitters has announced the iBoom, a 20-watts per channel, four-speaker boombox designed to holster the iPod and iPod mini. Although it looks like most of the controls will still be handled on the iPod itself (although there are separate ones for the built-in FM radio), the iBoom offers yet another way to impose your impeccable music taste on everyone else.

No word on price, sadly, but it should be available in late September at Everything iPod.

Generic drugs are cheaper...sometimes

Generic drugs are cheaper...sometimes 01/19/2004 07:18 AM
A n AP story says that generic drugs are cheaper than half price brand name drugs from Canada. What the FDA doesn't say is that most of the time, you can't get generics. The FDA acknowledges that there is a 20 year lag time due to patents. So, if you want an old drug, fine, but most of the time, I suggest, foreign drugs are still cheaper, if you can get them from a reputable source that hasn't been bullied yet.

Making Copy Protected CDs Cheaper?

Making Copy Protected CDs Cheaper? 07/21/2004 08:22 PM
The head of Atlantic Records UK seems to be recognizing the fact that copy protection doesn't provide consumers with anything of value, and he has an interesting idea on how to deal with this fact: make copy protected CDs cheaper than those without copy protection. What if you had an option to buy a copy protected CD at a discount, or an "open" CD at a premium? While it's surprising to see a recording industry exec admit the lower value of a copy protected CD, we all know what would happen. Most people would buy the cheaper CD, and proceed to use some sort of workaround to deal with the copy protection. Unfortunately, this also opens the door to the concept of use-based pricing for music. Want to play that CD on a stereo? That'll be $15. Want to play it on a computer also? $17.50. In your car? $20. On your portable music player? $25.
