"HP offers consumers simple, fun ways to enjoy and personalize their music and photo experiences," HP consumer brand and marketing vice president Siobhan O'Connor said. "Along with products such as our new Media Center PCs, now available with an integrated iPod dock and pre-installed Apple iTunes software, these new iPods round out a complete music solution from HP." HP sells the iPods at the same price as Apple with the 20GB, 30GB and 60 GB models selling for $299, $349 and $449, respectively.

Tokyo-based Tunewear on Wednesday announced four new accessories for use with the iPod or iPod mini: Prie Hook cases, Poptune removable wrappers, Waterwear water-resistant cases and aluminum clips for the company's Icewear mini cases. Prie Hook, which will ship in mid-January for US$54, features a large metal hook that you can use to attach the leather case to a belt loop or other spot. A flap at the bottom opens for charging the MP3 player in a dock; slots at the top and bottom allow access to all the ports. It's available in two models, one that fits all 4G iPods -- including the iPod photo -- and one that fits the iPod mini; the hook on the latter doesn't swivel 360 degrees, however.

Griffin's stated range for the iTrip is a little inaccurate: I once left my iPod playing over the radio in the office, got in my car and drove out of the parking lot, around the corner and down the street. The signal petered out at about 150 feet. This is through the walls of my office and several intervening buildings! I've been running around for the past several months with this bumper sticker on my car. It's an ink-jet job and as you can see, it's getting a little faded. I figure that anyone that can read the bumper sticker-- on the I-5, at a stop light-- if intrigued could tune in and listen to whatever I'm listening to. No, I don't take requests. TimeTrax will be launching a raft of new products this week at CES, including this version of their XM satellite radio reciever and software that will directly copy songs recorded from the XM service onto a user's iPod. While it's somewhat impossible to, say, pull an entire album down from XM, it's still somewhat surprising there hasn't been a big hammer on TimeTrax yet, from either XM or the RIAA.

Other products from TimeTrax at CES will include Sirius versions of their hardware. Ironically, no version of the TimeTrax software is planned for the Mac.

San Diego, Calif.-based Mad Catz Interactive Inc. -- a company best known for making accessories for video game consoles -- announced Wednesday "accessory starter kits" aimed at Apple's iPod and iPod mini. Kits include a FireWire/USB data and recharger cable, a car power adapter and a carrying case. The kits for iPod will work with new fourth generation iPods as well as third generation devices, and will be available in black. iPod mini kits will be available in silver, gold, blue, green and pink. The kits will cost "between US$29.99 and $49.99" when they debut this fall in North America and Europe. The company's Web site had not been updated with information about the new products as MacCentral posted this article.
