Father's Day Gift

Father's Day Gift

Father's Day Gift 06/22/2005 02:59 AM

What did I get for Father's Day? Moleskines: a pocket addressbook and a fullsize notebook. Along with the pocket notebook I had, it's almost a family. I'll have to get a mama moleskine (fullsize diary) though so the papa moleskine (fullsize notebook) won't feel lonely. And perhaps a fully figured sketchbook from Volant on the side...

Fujitsu Lifebook P7010D Notebook 07/14/2004 09:59 AM

fujitsu_p7000d.jpg imageFujitsu has announced a new P-Series Lifebook laptop, the P7010D, and it looks like a stunner, with a Pentium M 1.1GHz processor, built-in WiFi and memory card readers and all that, but most notably a projected eleven hour battery life. I'm sure that's with their fancy dual-battery setup, but geez -- that's better than an iPod! Currently listing at around $2,100; we'll let you know when we see a decent review. (Thanks, Jack!)

04/01/2005 02:29 PM
Longtime Apple notebook carrying case maker, Brenthaven, has introduced a new shoulder case that offers users protection for a 12- or 15-inch notebook in one bag. Unlike other 15-inch cases that can easily fit a 12-inch notebook -- although not as snugly -- Brenthaven says the new bag incorporates the CORE protection system, which adjusts its grip to accommodate different size notebooks. The Brenthaven Pro 12/15-inch Shoulder Case has a twin compartment with a combination accordion file folder and multimedia pockets designed for notebook accessories, cables and files. There's also an all-new organizer panel with a special iPod protective pocket and plenty of space for a cell phone.

Fujitsu BIBLO NX90L/W Sonoma Notebook 04/19/2005 11:04 AM

fujitsu_sonoma.gif imageComing right after the desktop announcement from Fujitsu is the same thing for notebooks. Of interest in their new notebook line is the "BIBLO NX90L/W" costing around 340,000 yen. This may be a tad expensive for a consumer-level notebook, but it features the new Sonoma platform for great justice. And a bizarre feature of this notebook is its inclusion of two hard drives for a maniacal (for a notebook, anyway) 200GB of space. Expected battery life? One hour. Maybe this is why Fujitsu is the primary developer of fuel cell technology for consumer electronics.

Now the company is beginning to accept orders from more notebook makers and so it is announcing the development of the drive, he said.

According to a recent study by Current Analysis, unit sales of notebooks equipped with a widescreen 15.4-inch display have steadily continued to climb throughout the first half of 2004. As of June 30, the widescreen market accounted for 48% of all notebooks sold, compared to only 15% in December 2003. The growth represents the highest share yet for the widescreen models since its introduction in the spring of 2003 and demonstrates widescreen systems are selling in greater numbers than its traditional square counterparts. Vaio Spring 2005 Notebook Lineup

Vaio Spring 2005 Notebook Lineup 01/05/2005 01:46 PM

vaio_notebook.jpg imageSony has announced their Spring 2005 lineup of Vaio laptops. Things look to to be pretty standard, with simple updates to the current type S, type T, type A, and type E notebooks (spells EAST), but they've also got two new ones — the type Y and type F (spelling FEASTY, or F YEAST). The type Y is a single-spindle notebook (meaning it has no optical drive; the only "spindle" is the hard drive), oriented towards business users, and comes in around $1600 USD with a 1.6GHz Pentium M, 256MB of RAM, 60GB hard drive, and Intel 855GME chipset. Not exactly anything to sneeze about.

But the type F could be — it has a 15.5" widescreen LCD, and due to some fancy construction terminology, this screen is a mere 7.7mm thick. While the type F is available in a range of processing powers and chipsets, the most powerful of these would be the Intel 915 chipset, including a 1.73GHz Pentium M, 512MB of DDR2 SDRAM, and even a GeForce Go 6200. In a bizarre move, Sony is also including a SD card adapter with each type F notebook.
