Agent-Based Software Development
http://www.agentdevelopment.co m/

This new book offers a thorough and comprehensive explanation of the methods, tools, standards and techniques used to develop software using the agent-oriented approach. Meeting a long unmet need to support the agent-software development community with practical guidance in this cutting-edge area, this authoritative resource helps you to: understand the issues in developing agent-based software, select tools and techniques that aid in the development of agent systems, and become familiar with important methodologies that can be used to build different types of agent systems.

A thorough and practical introduction to agent-oriented software engineering, the book covers four major areas: the basic concepts of agents that motivate agent technology, available technological support for deployment of agent systems, industry-relevant initiatives, and agent methodologies for agent system development. Addressing issues of
direct relevance to specific development and task objectives, as well as to industry-wide initiatives, the work is essential for those wanting to understand more about the commercial realities of agent-based computing.

I wanted to plug two utilities I use a lot when developing because of the amount of time they save. If you have more, let me know.

Localization Suite

The Localization Suite from Blue Technologies scans your code and your NIBs for strings that can be localized and creates a file readable by its Localizer program so that it can be localized. When the translation is run back through the manager, a NIB in that language is created as well as a strings file for your code.

Accessorizer

I can't praise Accesso rizer enough. Just go look at it and you'll see why. When you're making a class, use this. The code is perfect and it gets you started with KVC/KVO and Undo Manager support on your object.

Solution Guide for Migrating High
Performance Computing (HPC) Applications
from UNIX to Windows
01/03/2004 05:59 AM
This guide is designed to provide process and technical guidance to help you migrate your existing HPC applications from UNIX to Microsoft® Windows®, as well as set up the required HPC infrastructure (including hardware, network connectivity, and software tools) to run those applications on Windows. It will help you choose the optimal HPC system architecture for your business, and once you have made that choice, it provides detailed guidance for you to plan, migrate, deploy, and operate your HPC system. The guide can also be used to create a Windows-based HPC application and HPC infrastructure from scratch, without migrating from a UNIX environment, although this use is not its primary purpose. This guide discusses the planning and implementation of four types of HPC systems on Windows. These are symmetric multiprocessing (SMP), massively parallel multiprocessing (MPP), a network of workstations (NOW), and Web service-load balanced systems (WS-LB).

policy-based mgmt. via Windows

A couple of months ago I enthused (some might say "gushed") about Vintela Authentication Services, which enables you to efficiently - and securely - manage a single logon/password for Unix, Linux and Windows applications. In essence, it integrates the Unix and Linux platforms into Windows' Active Directory. The boys in Linden, Utah didn't rest on their laurels very long, though. Just last week came the announcement of a new add-on to VAS - Vintela Group Policy, which provides a framework for Unix and Linux policy-based management through the Windows Group Policy system. All integrated, of course, through Active Directory.
