ubiquitous LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP/Python/Perl) stack. Yet it's
not always as easy as you'd expect to get all the elements of the
stack properly installed and working together. Enter XAMPP..."

VertiGo and Cablebuddy Review
04/06/2005 02:46 PMWaterfield Bags launched a SleeveCase designed specifically for the
Mac Mini within weeks of the official Apple announcement. In its
default configuration as I received it, the SleeveCase is merely what
it claims to be, a case into which a Mac Mini will fit. However,
Waterfield offers a configuration with a detachable shoulder strap.

Quad Opteron Server Review
Quad Opteron Server Review
12/08/2003 08:20 PMAce's Hardware has published an in-depth server review featuring a
4-way Opteron 848 server, 2-way Opteron 248, and 2-way 3.06 GHz
Pentium 4 Xeon DP (1 MB L3). The benchmarks include a number of
real-world Java application server benchmarks, Apache HTTP
benchmarking, MySQL datamining, and more. The effect of NUMA-aware
optimizations on scalability is also considered, as well as the
performance differences associated with 64-bit (AMD64) binaries over
legacy x86 binaries.

powerful, versatile
02/05/2005 09:48 PMA scalable, stable, secure software stack for small and medium-sized
business network services is hard to develop in-house or integrate
from piecemeal components. To integrate it all with a single sign-on

OpenExchange, a packaged, full-featured, secure, all-encompassing
operating environment.

Review: Versatile Squeezebox an
impressive music server
04/28/2004 09:31 PMThere is a joy to be derived from well-executed engineering. I've
spent some time on this and other OSDN sites reviewing gadgets -- in
particular mp3 players. All of them have suffered from some form of
what maybe should be called iPod envy. Not so the Squeezebox, made by
Slim Devices, Inc. I wanted to write up my experiences with it, but
more importantly shine a spotlight on the way the company approaches
software development and uses free software to advance its bottom-line
goals of producing what many consider to be the reference
implementation for an outboard mp3 player.

Review: UnixWare 7.1.4 is suitable for
basic server duty
08/10/2004 08:31 AMUnixWare 7.1.4 is the latest in a long line of Unix releases from The
SCO Group. It is a stable and mature Unix, with a variety of basic
servers included, such as the Apache Web server and Squid, and is
available in both single-user desktop-oriented versions and server
versions. It has reasonable support for hardware, good documentation,
and a nice integrated management utility that offers unified
administration of the OS, hardware, and servers. Performance as a
server platform is good, supporting a number of TCP sessions and Web
server users, and file transfer performance is competitive with Linux
and Windows platforms. However, as a desktop OS or file/print server,
UnixWare is hard to recommend over competitors.

11/14/2002 12:26 PMUsing Apache As A Proxy Server
Using Apache As A Proxy Server
06/14/2002 06:12 AMUnless you've been cryogenically frozen for the last twenty years,
you probably already know what Apache is. It's the planet's most
popular Web server, with a humongously-high number of Web sites
relying on it to serve up content in a reliable and efficient manner.
It has an enthusiastic fan following, an active development community,
and the love and loyalty of millions of Webmasters all over the
planet.
The cool thing about Apache, though, is that it's not just a Web
server. It can do lots of other things too - and of its more
interesting (though less well-known) capabilities includes the ability
to act as a proxy server for both HTTP and FTP connections over a
network. -- Icarus
