Pocket-lint has a small photo gallery of hysterical office pranks.
Gizmodo, where I saw this post, is seeking reader submissions of other office
prank photos and will post the best few.

As a public
service, we're bringing you a list of interesting and topical office
pranks from Pocket-Lint. I think my favorite, which appears above,
involves clover seeds (?), a keyboard, board chow, and a bit of water.
The resulting chia keyboard made me pee a little.
If you would like to amuse me today, please send your images of
office pranks to tips at giz. We'll post the best few.
We're getting lots of
fun office pranks, and we might just have a winner. Please keep the
pranks coming, though, and please remember that it's not a prank if
you just stuff your boss in a fridge—this means you R.J. of
Chicago. That's what they call manslaughter.
Keep 'em coming. We'll post the best ones tomorrow.
GADC's demonic Mac Scripting: "Make a Shutdown script and save
it as an applet with a name that in no way implies its true nature.
Then set it up to run on startup or on login. Now whenever the victim
starts up or logs into the computer, it'll shut down. This one is
killer for obvious reasons."
Tim's Birthday Chair:
Disassemble a musical birthday card and carefully tape it
underneath a coworkers chair so that when the chair is leaned back,
the card activates. It took more than four hours for one coworker to
discover the source of the intermittent noise!
And Brendan's Word hack:
Subtle in execution, but so hot when it yields results.
Change the AutoCorrect on a coworker's Word settings such that when he
types in, say "facilitate," it gets auto-corrected to "faliatiate".
Don't have the patience to wait for him to type facilitate? Change
"the" to "teet", and so on.
And the Silver Medal goes to Anthony and his ’84 Westfalia
van cubicle mod. The van cost $400, but the joy it gives is
priceless.
Well, I received quite
a few pranks these past few days. Some good ones, some bad
ones—mice in the blender? Come on Emeril!—and here's the
best of the worst. The Bronze Medalists dealt almost exclusively with
computerized mayhem, which is kind of a cop-out. But you're all
special in your own ways.
The most basic prank came to us from just about everyone. It's
good and important, don't get me wrong, but it's been played.
Essentially, you take a screenshot of someone's desktop and make that
the wallpaper. Hee hee.
Brendan Colby writes:
We took a co-worker's monitor power cable and ran it
through the wall into a separate power strip/surge protector so we
could turn his monitor on/off at our leisure.
Rubin sent us an entire list of possible pranks including, but not
limited to:
Taping up the microphone of someone's phone, causing
them to speak louder.
Put a piece of clear tape on the glass of the photocopier. This is
fun, but it has a second part to it. If the sheer frustration of
someone having to make 100 copies all over again isn't enough, you
could try making 100 copies of the piece of tape, and then load the
paper into the paper feed. Funny to see people go crazy trying to
figure out why the copy is coming up with this square on every
page.
Post a For Sale on the lunchroom posterboard with your co-workers
extension, offering to sell "One size adult XL outfit of baby
clothing, including pacifier, bottle, bib and diaper."
James suggested using BoinkMail which allows you to send embarrassing things to your coworkers. Or
just send embarrassing things to your co-workers.
And the winner of the Bronze Medal is the big, pink office created
by Dan. The performance and planning were quite ambitious, though the
ultimate delivery could have been improved by a hit of Hello Kitty.
Stay tuned for the Silver and Gold medalists later today.
Media Pranks Start When You're Young06/17/2005 03:38 PM National Spelling Bee entrant Dominic Ranz Ebarle Errazo had
apparently slipped in a Napoleon Dynamite reference during his brief
appearance on TV, and then he showed up in the comments on Romenesko's
Obscure Store blog on TypePad to talk about it. Well done, Ranz!...
Here’s a series of real life pranks by a guy from Zug.com who
wanted to see just how important credit security was when he used his
card at various stores and restaurants. He starts out slow - signing
names other than his own, advances to wacky names like Beethoven, and
even devolved into drawing ducks, hieroglyphics, and a little grid
picture. None of it mattered. (The photos are hilarious.) Eventually
he started signing blatant theft…

RE/Search Pranks Festival in San Francisco on Saturday!12/02/2003 01:39 AM "Fifteen years after it first hit shelves, PRANKS! remains one of the
most important and relevant books ever to emerge from RE/Search's outre publishing
house. In today's current surreal political landscape, a well-executed
prank can do much more than yelling theater in a crowded fire!
In that spirit, RE/Search and The Lab present The Pranks! Festival
(Saturday, 12/6). The Pranks! Festival will celebrate ten Bay Area
artists who appeared in PRANKS! Through art exhibits, panel
discussions, and chaotic socialization, we will fete the fearless
Situationist spirit that San Francisco's pranksters embody. This is a
rare opportunity to engage with prankster pioneers Mark Pauline of
Survival Research Laboratories (SRL), Monte Cazazza, Bruce Conner,
Paul Mavrides, Mark McCloud, Mal Sharpe (yes, of Coyle & Sharpe),
Fluxus anti-artist Robert Delford Brown, John Trubee, tattoo guru Don
Ed Hardy and Jello Biafra (tent.)."
Update: Milton Rand Kalman, Chief Scientist of the
Billboard Liberation
Front, tells us that the BLF will also be making an appearance!

Microsoft To Bridge Office, Back Office Apps01/26/2004 01:10 AM Microsoft continues to build bridges between Office desktop apps and
reservoirs of back-office data. The "Information Worker Bridge"
project now under way seeks to make it easier for integrators or
in-house developers to make Excel or Word de-facto front ends for
back-end accounting, ERP or other applications, sources said. In
theory, this would take back-office integration beyond ODBC drivers
and InfoPath, the Office application that lets people build dynamic
forms on their desktops that tap into back-office XML data.

Microsoft Office Data Assistant for Microsoft Office PowerPoint® 2003
Microsoft Office Data Assistant for Microsoft Office PowerPoint® 200305/27/2004 03:09 AM The Data Assistant for Microsoft® Office PowerPoint® 2003 provides
an easy-to-use method of inserting and managing graphical data objects
such as Visio drawings, and Excel charts and named ranges into
PowerPoint presentations.
There are three basic features for the tool: inserting graphical data
objects into PowerPoint, saving graphical data objects for future use,
and retrieving saved graphical data objects for reuse. Because the
Data Assistant creates a connection between PowerPoint and the host
application of the data object (Excel or Visio), you have the option
of inserting the data object as it was saved or refreshing it to
reflect any changes that were made to the data object.
Microsoft Office XP to Microsoft Office 2003 Migration Issues
With my Treo 600, I'm already traveling down this path, but I
actually don't mind it and it's not much of a burden. I tend to check
my work email when I'm standing in line somewhere or doing something
equally time-wasting. Except, now I'm not wasting time anymore. So I
figure I'm racking up comp time. :-D
Search Engine Optimization, Inc. Opens New Los Angeles Office to Focus on Serving the Entertainment Industry and Other Local Companies. Search Engine Optimization, Inc. (SEO, Inc.) today announced the opening of a satellite office in Los Angeles to serve the entertainment industry and other local companies, large or small, seeking heightened visibility and a high ROI on the Internet.
The popular wisdom is that it takes Microsoft until Release 3 of
anything to get it right; but the early word on the new Office XML format makes Release 2 look
pretty good. Reading between the lines, the big news is, first, that
the default file-save format is XML and, second, that the XML coverage
is complete (In the current Office XML, PowerPoint is entirely absent
and Excel has big holes). Assuming Microsoft pulls this off, it’s a
major achievement. Along with patching those holes, working around the
basic OLE-container-ness of everything has to be tricky; one of the
nice things about MS Office is that you can jam pretty well
anything that talks OLE into the middle of pretty well any Office doc
and it just works. I have questions around the licensing: Brian Jones,
linked above, says “royalty-free” but the current licensing
language has some clauses that make lawyers nervous, so let’s wait
and see on that one. At one level, it’s sad that while the rest of the world (including, lately, Adobe and IBM) has been
hard at work on one wide-open, shareable, portable, standardized XML
office document format, Microsoft put their energy into inventing
another one. Still, this ought to be a step forward for Microsoft’s
customers. The news coverage says “late 2006”; good luck to the
team in the tough job of getting it shipped.

This comment
at MetaFilter totally nails what's wrong with the concept of
taking a downbeat, dry, British comedy and trying to make it work as
an NBC sitcom:
Here's how fast this goes wrong: in the first scene Carell
says "If you think she's cute now, you should have seen her a couple
of years ago" and "Pam" says "What?!" - Dawn would never have reacted.
The whole point was that everyone in the office was too worn down by
the drudgery and inanity of their jobs to challenge Brent's horrifying
misogyny and other casual cruelties. Because that's what really
happens in every office in the world all the fucking
time.

I work from home in a room set off by itself, which isolates the
rest of the house from the ungodly noise eminating from my Logitech
Z-680 speakers (now playing: Zappa's "Roxy and Elsewhere," alternating with Outkast's latest).
I spent years working on a cramped desk before I found the one
shown here, which I hope to keep for the rest of my life (since that's
how long I'll be paying for it). Buried under the desk is a system
from VoodooPC, which I recommend
highly. My favorite part of the setup? The dual 21" LCD monitors
:)
Oh, and the two little orange-red desks at the right belong to my
son and my daughter. When I'm not travelling, they claim ownership of
my laptops. My son (age four) is a whiz at Sonic the Hedgehog, while
my daughter (age three) loves her Dora the Explorer games. And they
both get a big kick out of Scholastic's
"I-Spy" video games.
