Jumsoft offers free domain, hosting in
Mac-only contest
08/19/2004 03:19 PM
Jumsoft, a developer best known for its Keynote theme packs and such applications as Process and Money, announced on Thursday a contest aimed only at Mac users. Entrants are asked to craft proposals explaining how they would use the contest's prize -- the domain www.xcodelife.com, Mac OS X v10.3 Server and hosting services consisting of 5GB of drive space, 10GB of bandwidth, 20 e-mail addresses, 10 sub-domains, PHP, WebObjects, CGI and custom-installed software -- in the most creative manner. The company notes that there are no guidelines for entries; ideas mentioned by general manager Saulius Dallide include "a user-friendly Web site for Mac OS X developers, a magazine, a developer mailing list, [or] an open source project." Entries must be received by Sept. 30, however; visit its official Web site for more details.

Outside of the Keynote Speaker

Outside of the Keynote Speaker 06/04/2004 01:09 AM

In regards to library conferences, TechnoBiblio asks:

" 'Who would you invite to dinner?' in regards to non-librarians that you think have something to say of importance to librarians, but are outside our usual streams of thought? Who do you think could shed light on interesting issues about the future of information? Information standards? Access issues (both accessibility and legal/technological access)? Who is shaping thinking around public sector roles in enlightened ways?

What would your ideal panel be about and who would it include? Once you get it all shaped up - send it off to your local ALA Councilor. At least that is the way that I think the process works, but I am not completely sure - ALA's inner workings still strike me as arcane." [TechnoBiblio]

NetNewsWire and Keynote

NetNewsWire and Keynote 03/19/2003 10:44 PM
An interesting feature request for NetNewsWire appeared on Tom Bridge’s weblog today—creating Keynote presentations from RSS feeds.

Tom Bridge writes: “Imagine for just a moment with me. You wake up, and on the way to the shower flip open your powerbook, fire up NetNewsWire and go get clean. When you've come back, NNW has created a Keynote presentation for you.”

It’s a good idea!

But... I have a few things to do first—fixing some bugs, adding new features to the weblog editor—before I could work on this. It will be a few weeks before I can do much with this idea.

Keynote Theme Park

Inspired by the upcoming iChat AV window (Tiger) this Keynote 2 theme lets your content actually reflect off a highly polished surface! Just copy, paste, flip and place to allow your material to shine on a dark or light background. Each version of “Reflections” includes 22 Photo Cutout Masters (plus 8 text) for a total of 60 masters. But there is really no limit, all cutout widths are totally adjustable. Just duplicate a master and slide the sides anywhere you want. You can even apply "separator" elements to create multiple cutouts.

Also included are a series of custom labels and focus panels to compliment both Black and White versions. Interactive navigation buttons for use with Keynote 2's hyperlink tool are featured. These include: Back, Next, Jump Back and Forward, Home and a Menu Item button all supplied in both active and non-active states.

Addressing Apple's Keynote

Addressing Apple's Keynote 11/04/2003 11:04 AM
Depending on how you normally present your slides and what other software you've already got on your Mac, Keynote could be the presentation tool you've been waiting for all your life. Either that, or you'll find yourself feeling somewhat frustrated at the overly simple drawing tools and the lack of more advanced layout, animation and slide interaction tools.
