Redefining magazine advertising

Redefining magazine advertising 07/09/2004 06:27 PM
In the magazine publishing industry, there’s a clear correlation between the size of the audience to which a publication caters and its advertising revenue potential. Contextual Advertising And Search
Advertising Are Different

Contextual Advertising And Search
Advertising Are Different
08/03/2004 12:32 PM
Apparently, marketers are just now figuring out that browsing and searching are two different modes of web surfing, and people will t reat ads differently in each situation. Some pointed this out quit e a while ago, but thanks to Google and Overture promoting contextually matched ads as somehow being just like search ads, many advertisers expected similar results -- which they're not getting at all. So, now, some advertisers seem to be fighting back and are telling Google and Overture that it's about time they separated out the two forms of advertising and let the advertisers work each campaign separately. It appears that Overture has started to move in this direction, but Google continues to insist that there's no reason to treat the ads differently.

iSight saves the day

iSight saves the day 12/17/2003 01:17 PM
After having her office broken into and cameras and tripods stolen for a third time, a BYU staff member decided to take matters into her own hands. She mounted an iSight camera on a concealed iBook, and waited for the thieves to strike again. Two 25 year old Brighman Young University students were caught on camera breaking into the office again, and were subsequently identified and arrested. The two are part of a major theft ring that has accounted for the theft of tens of thousands...

My new Nokia 7600 saves the day

My new Nokia 7600 saves the day 05/03/2004 10:14 PM

nokia7600
I bought a new Nokia 7600 when I was in Helsinki. When I landed in Tokyo, my Docomo phone was not working. (I think I missed a bill payment.) But my Nokia 7600 roamed on the J-Phone WCDMA network without a hitch.

Probably only people who have travelled to Japan from GSM countries will understand how cool it is to be able to use your GSM SIM card in a phone in Japan where we don't have a GSM network.

More about the phone on my stuff blog.

Dan misses, Aditya saves! 03/31/2005 03:30 PM
Aditya Dev Sood will be speaking at an Aula klubi event in Helsinki entitled 'Used in India' on April 12th, 2005 at 6.00 pm at Korjaamo. Aditya is director of the Center for Knowledge Societies, a research and design practice based in Bangalore and New Delhi. The event is free and open to the public.

Aditya replaces the original appearance by Dan Gillmor. He may not be as famous, but he certainly knows a lot about mobile technology, culture, and people in an environment you have not probably previously experienced. Plus that he's a really cool guy.

Boot disk saves the day

Boot disk saves the day 01/22/2004 06:54 AM
Back in the day, before interconnected networks, I always carried two or three NetWare client boot diskettes with me when visiting remote sites. Two or three were needed because invariably someone would fold, spindle or mutilate at least one leaving me hours from my own desk and no way to create another. This was also, I might add, before the days of laptops - or even "portables," that euphemistic word for the 40-pound computer you lugged around in the late 1980s/early 1990s.
