I think that this may or may not happen. It would ‘annoy’ current users who have had to pay to register the application and I don’t suppose they want to tick off their customer base unless they offer some significant compensation- shall we say a share or two of Google stock?Well, that’s just an idle thought, but one that I suspect would pacify even the most annoyed…

For those that read megnut.com through a news reader, you may be missing my photos from Paris that I've been posting to the site via Flickr. If you want to follow along on my adventures, you can check out my Flickr photo set, April in Paris 2005. So far there aren't a lot of photos, but as I wander the streets, I'll take more. They're all from my phone, so the quality isn't great. As I get (hopefully) better photos from my digital camera, I'll post those as well.

OK - so I'm sitting here in paris - with an extra moment - so I dipped my toe back into the blgosphere long enough to catch Jay Dedman's rap on "How to make life easier explained very clearly".

I dig what he's saying and pointing to - but I can't help but wonder how this post would be different if Jay used a combination of thumbnails grabbed from video clips - linking to those video clips - to talk about enclosures, subscribing to and creating video blogs.

Shouldn't we be eating our own digfood?

Shouldn't a video blogger use video blogging to describe video blogging?

It's one thing I haven't seen done yet - which is a consistent combination of thumbnail - which links to a clip - used in blogging gesture.

If so - I bet a bunch more people would click on thsoe video blog links.

There's so much on the web...that knwoing how to look at what you want is difficult.

Especially when video starts popping up everywhere.

So you start trusting certain places to keep track of the good stuff for you.

You do this by signing up, for free, with a subscrition service like Bloglines or Feedster.

Almost every blog and many websites have an RSS feed that you subscribe to.

You just enter the URL in your subscription service and wait.

New posts will show up...all in one place.

HERE is a simple explanation of RSS.

But we're taking this idea step further...how will video be read by the RSS reader?

When video starts popping up everywhere, it'd be cool to get new videos just pop up on my computer as they're posted.

This happens with "enclosures".

I know...I know...I'm also learning how all this works too....

but Dave Winer explains the concept beautifully here.

I've been told this image has leaked some time before, but I haven't seen it, so here you go: possibly an image of the Xbox 2/Xbox 360/Xenon/Xhatever. It does seem to fit all previous reports about the console's look, including color, size, and the weird handle things, but it's also not very 'set-top' looking, so who knows. One of the cool new things in Movable Type 3.x is that it forks processes to do stuff in the background. For instance, if you save an entry, you don't have to wait for it to rebuild. MT runs the rebuild process in the background, and the entry quietly rebuilds within 30 seconds or so of you saving the entry and returning to the menu screen.

However, this morning I was mass deleting 60+ comment spams (another great new feature: search for comments by IP). MT 3.x is automatically rebuilds the entry when you delete a comment (great improvement, BTW), so 60+ entries were rebuilding at the same time in the background.

Now, we all know that MT isn't terribly efficient with the database calls (doesn't have to be when it's write-one, read-many), so the database must have been getting hammered while these entries were rebuilding.

I made a change to another entry, tried to save it, and got this:

Got an error: Bad ObjectDriver config: Connection error: User [removed]@localhost has already more than 'max_user_connections' active connections

A small price to pay for background processing, but they probably should have trapped the error. Now I'm left wondering how many of my entries actually rebuilt, and how many died in process due to this error. Since they were being rebuilt in the background and thus wouldn't display an errror, I may never know.

The solution: Rebuild All Files. My hosting company must hate me.
