Last year we brought you the Comic Art Effect tutorial and inspired a new breed of photo-comic artists.

New on the scene is Plasq's Comic Life application which will aid you in turning your comic themed pictures into comic book pages--complete with dialog balloons, "sound" effects and captions. Very cool--very impressed.

Over a month in the making, our latest Photoshop tutorial will take you through the process of making a mild-mannered digital photo into a comic book style illustration.

Special thanks go out to our heroes, Bill Douthett for beta testing, and to TechTV and KFI radio personality, Leo Laporte for providing our feature image. Thank you both so much.

Cory Doctorow: BrashFink has made a fantastic original comic book by taking screenshots from Half Life 2 and laying them out inside funnyubook panels, with speech balloons, etc -- it's like static machinima, or a fotonovela made with game graphics. Link (Thanks, Olly!)

Update: Brian sez, "Gamics.Com also has a *ton* of comic book-type stuff that is done from screenshots of various games, along with nice tutorials on how to DIY."

You've seen them over at Boing Boing, Gizmodo, and Engadget -- they're transparent desktop optical illusions and are made by posting a desktop picture of whatever is behind your screen. They make it appear as if you can see right out the back of your monitor. Well, I've just posted a Photoshop tutorial that will teach you how to do it without cheating. Once you're done, post your results on the Transparent Screens Flickr photoset and make sure you let people know where you learned the technique!

Listen to them, remember the movies, and laugh at them. I don't recommend making prank calls with them, as Stavros the Wonder Chicken discusses, but I gather people do.
