Dwarf Mail Server 1.1.0 (Default branch)

Dwarf Mail Server 1.1.0 (Default branch)

Dwarf Mail Server 1.1.0 (Default branch) 04/14/2005 12:56 PM

Dwarf Mail Server is an (E)SMTP, POP3, and IMAP4 mail server. It is suitable for users as a mail server replacement and for developers as a platform for customization and development.

Changes:
The MailStore implementation for the IMAP service has been improved, optimizing simultaneous access to mailboxes. It is now possible to map a single user account to the namespace of other users. A minor bug in the SMTP server initialization routine has been fixed. The MailEvent API has changed and now requires one additional argument with the user name for creating a mail event.

branch)
04/11/2005 07:35 AM
Dwarf is a modular Java framework for developing network server applications based on Internet standards. While focused on building service-based applications like Web servers, mail servers, and messaging services, it can also be used for other applications. The core consists of several packages, which provide a multithreaded kernel, security based on the standard Java 2 Platform Security architecture and the JAAS, logging, configuration, and a management system. Modularity and a fine-grained API allow one to extend the server, to reuse the existing services for a new application, or even create new services based on the existing ones.
Changes:
Preliminary support for non-blocking TCP/IP services based on the request/response protocol model was added. Console commands may now start their own thread and so be used for job scheduling.

Mail Avenger 0.6 (Default branch) 03/29/2005 02:42 AM

It lets users run messages through filters like ClamAV and SpamAssassin during SMTP transactions, so the server can reject unwanted email before assuming responsibility for its delivery. Other unique features include TCP SYN fingerprint and network route recording, SPF (sender policy framework) as a general policy language, qmail-style delivery of extension addresses, validation of sender addresses through SMTP callbacks, mail-bomb protection, integration with kernel firewalls, and more.
Changes:

The general goal is to provide a database-style architecture to handle email, not just for storage but at the application level too. Fast and shared access, fine-tuned security, robust storage, consistent backups, auditing, statistics, and customized add-ons are possible.

Stunnix Perl Web Server 1.3 (Default
branch)

Stunnix Perl Web Server 1.3 (Default
branch)
03/31/2005 03:38 PM
Stunnix Perl Web Server is an advanced Web server for serving browser-based applications. It's positioned as a platform for "cross-platform GUI apps", since it uses a lot of tricks to make browser-based apps feel like native apps in responsivness: supporting a FastCGI-like framework for Perl scripts; non-blocking I/O and serving several requests simultaneously; and advanced caching support. It has support for PATH_INFO, SSI, CGI, GET/POST; the ability to pack Perl, the Web server, and the site into an executable file that starts the server and opens the site in the browser when run; and a toolkit to create multi-platform autorun CD-ROMs with server, site and Perl on them. It can be used as a UI for Stunnix obfuscators, e.g. Perl-Obfus.
Changes:
This release adds support for stopping SPWS and releasing CD-ROMs for all platforms (triggered when a user visits a resource with a special name); the CD-ROM is no longer locked on Mac OS X between HTTP requests. Native utilities have been introduced for starting SPWS and opening the site in a browser for Windows and Mac OS X. The XCGI framework is extended to allow scripts written for it to be run as CGI or FastCGI scripts without changes. An option to force using MSIE on Mac OS X has been added. Stability on misconfigured Windows boxes was greatly improved. A lot of improvements in code and in the documentation were introduced.

It runs on Unix, Linux, Solaris, Win95/98/NT/XP/2000/2003, MacOS 9, MacOS X, VMS, and more.
Changes:
This version contains some major new features, such as RADSEC protocol support, which implements Radius transport and proxying over a reliable TCP/IP or SCTP connection, with optional TLS encryption and optional TLS mutual authentication by PKI certificate. This permits reliable secure proxying to other Radiators. Support was added for Novell eDirectory Universal Passwords, for use with PAP, CHAP, MSCHAP, MSHCAPV2, TLS, TTLS-*, PEAP-*, and LEAP. A number of other minor features were also added, as well as a number of bugfixes.

PSYC MUVE Communications Server
cvs-05-03-17 (Default branch)
03/25/2005 03:03 PM
psycMUVE is a distributed chat and messaging system based on the Protocol for SYnchronous Conferencing. PSYC is multicast and routed between servers and clients in a scalable and efficient way, but users can also comfortably use IRC clients, telnet, Web chat, or Jabber to enter the network. psycMUVE communicates with Jabber/XMPP servers and host chat rooms that are freely programmable and cannot be hacked. It also provides gateways to several IRC networks, but unlike IRC, everyone can run a server and be an equal member of the PSYC network.
Changes:
Scalable route discovery simplifies the tasks of implementing distributed chat channels and multicasting presence. A new /shout command routes a message efficiently to all friends, no matter how many. The installation procedure has been fixed and updated. The interface for native PSYC clients is enhanced. The built-in Web server comes with a useful starting page. /me has a new sister called /my. There have been major improvements all over, making this version a candidate for large scale release.

SOPE Application Server 4.4beta.5
(Default branch)
03/22/2005 03:51 PM
Screenshot The SOPE package is an extensive set of frameworks (16 frameworks, ~1500 classes) which form a complete Web application server environment. Besides the Apple WebObjects compatible appserver extended with Zope concepts, it contains a large set of reusable classes: XML processing (SAX, DOM, XML-RPC), MIME/IMAP4 processing, LDAP connectivity, RDBMS connectivity, and iCalendar parsing. The parts of the package can be used stand-alone (e.g. in Cocoa applications) and do not require the appserver parts. For MacOSX developers, the package includes SOPE:X, which contains special Xcode and Cocoa support for SOPE.
Changes:
Some minor issues in the WebDAV layer were fixed. A plist parsing bug in the rule engine was eliminated (required for OGo trunk), and the configuration was improved.

If you've sent me an email in the last week or so and you've seen rejects, please try sending again, this time it should work (otherwise leave a comment in this entry). Thanks.

12/22/2003 06:40 AM
With the imminent demise of the product known as Red Hat Linux, many people are asking, "Where do I go next?" For IT decision-makers, the question couldn't come at a worse time. Just as Microsoft is dropping support for their most popular version of Windows, prodding budget-conscious managers to consider Linux on the organization desktop, the best-known Linux distribution is suddenly no longer a part of the solution set at the retail level. As a community college instructor preparing both users and administrators to use Linux in the workplace, the question of "what now?" has been on my mind as well. What follows is a head-to-head comparison of the free version of the world's second most popular Linux distribution - SuSE 9.0 - and the Red Hat-backed community Linux distribution Fedora Core 1.
