25 years ago a Chicago radio disc jockey had an idea for a promotional event. Steve Dahl invited his listeners to bring a disco record to a double-header White Sox game. Between games he was going to blow them up. What happened was a full scale riot that caused the White Sox to forfeit and disco to die.

David Pescovitz: A group of MIT students built a 128 square foot light-up dancefloor in their dorm lounge. A total of 1,536 LEDs provide 4,096 colors and 30 frames/second. Following up on this previous BoingBoing post about the Bollywood Freaks mashup "Don't Stop 'til You Get to Bollywood," BoingBoing reader Mike says:

This was only a very slightly re-tweaked version of a tune from an early 1980s Bollywood soundtrack, as sung by the well-known Indian singer Usha Uthup. (The tune's original title is "Chhupke Kaun Aya".) The Usha Uthup version has just been re-released on CD in the UK, as part of a 2CD mix set called "The Trip", mixed by Tom Middleton.

But you ain't heard nothing yet! Usha's greatest work, which dates from the same era, is the utterly INSANE "One Two Cha Cha Cha". (This also quotes from a classic disco hit.) This track is available on a 1997 compilation called "In Flight Entertainment Vol.2" - and also as an MP3 on my blog for the next week or two.

So, yesterday I did a tour just as the post-dinner speakers began at 6:50. George writes: "It holds 32 Carrying cases, 4 cases of OTC figures, and loads of Galactic Heroes, including the C-3PO and Chewbacca set. One interesting thing is that the Stormtrooper that comes with the Vader carrying case is a POTJ Sandtrooper, minus the pauldron and dirty paintjob. Hasbro even gave him the correct blaster." So I discovered this awesome thing. If you sleep three extra hours in the morning, you'll feel fantastic, but for some reason, everything is three hours ahead. Perhaps if I had been sleeping on this KLOC Floor Lounger last night instead of a hard subway bench I wouldn't have neglected my internal clock's alarms -- not that it is meant for sleeping. Instead, the idea is that, when surfing or playing games or whatever, you'll have a handy lump to learn against, like an accommodating neighborhood floor-level hunchback. For Macintosh only (because of the Mac, right? Get it?).

Mark Frauenfelder: In the latest edition of Cool Tools, James Tierney reviews a $10 floor cleaner called the RoboMaid that looks a little like a Roomba.

Robomaid is a low tech, very cheap version of Roomba cleaner.  It doesn't clean rugs, but has done a great job on our wood, tile, and stone floors.   The design is wonderful in its elegance: a powered ball propelling a sweeping "hat".  Like Roomba it cleans along walls, under tables and desks, and in corners where it would be difficult to clean otherwise.  It uses no intelligence, so it randomly changes direction, but is surprisingly thorough.  Especially since I don't care how long it takes.
