Polygraphs Don't Give True Story 05/14/2004 04:46 AM
Researchers have yet to develop a foolproof technology to determine whether a person is telling the truth. That hasn't stopped interrogators from relying on their old, flawed standby: the polygraph. By Noah Shachtman.

Meg cheers for
Pats!Well it was close, but the Pats did it again, and I was happy to cheer when Vinatieri's kick went right down the middle and put the Pats in the lead (and gave them the win). It was a good day all around for things football: earlier in the morning, David and I ran the Gridiron 5K in Central Park. Here's us at the start and more importantly, here were are nearing the end. You can even see my Tom Brady jersey! It was a very slow one for us, the bitter cold had prevented us from doing much training, and the course was a lot uphill. Also David had moved the day before, so was sore from that. What do all those excuses mean? 11:05 per mile. A slow one for sure, but we'll pick up speed again. I hope.

Yay Patriots!

Yay Patriots! 03/14/2005 05:38 PM
Last night's Super Bowl was pretty good, especially once the Pats started playing better in the second half. To show our support for the team, we made 'Teddy Bruschettas' -- one set topped with chopped mushrooms sauteed in butter with garlic and dried sage and the other with warmed tomatoes, basil, and garlic cooked in olive oil. Both types were delicious, and I'm sure supported not just Teddy Bruschi but all the Patriots! Aside from burning the first batch of toasts so badly that flames were shooting out the oven, it was pretty successful. I recommend Teddy Bruschettas for all your Patriots game dining needs.

Brad Pitt as Mr. Darcy?

Brad Pitt as Mr. Darcy? 05/11/2004 08:51 PM
While I'm as much a fan of Mr. Pitt's work as the next guy, just whose brilliant idea was it to hand him the part of Mr. Darcy in the big screen adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice? Not that I'm against big screen adaptations of Ms. Austen's work--I was equally fond of Gwyneth's Emma as Kate's--but a line has to be drawn somewhere.

A bunch of folks have asked about this, so I'm posting it as a public service... If you've recently noticed "Brad DeLong's Semi-Daily Journal (2004)" randomly appearing in place of other feeds in your My Yahoo RSS module, you're not alone. There's a bug there. And we know about it. You subscriptions have not been changed, corrupted, or anything like that. I do kinda wonder if Brad will get a bunch more subscribers as a result. :-)...
