BrainShare is around the corner
BrainShare is around the corner
02/10/2004 05:04 AMIn mid-December, I mentioned BrainShare in passing fully meaning to
get back to a newsletter devoted to Novell's annual users' conference
sometime in early January. But events, other topics (and, I must
admit, my own faulty memory) have put it off until now. Still, you
shouldn't put off your registration for the event because if you wait
until after Feb. 13 it will cost you an additional $200. That $200
could be the difference between "YES" and "NO" from whoever has to
approve your travel and training requests.

Novell's BrainShare 2005 - Day 3
03/23/2005 08:03 AMDay 3 at BrainShare 2005 was another busy day. I managed to visit
informally with a couple of Novell customers at breakfast, followed by
formal meetings with other customers and channel partners in the press
room. Last but not least, I was able to meet one-on-one with two
Novell executives: CIO Debra Anderson and VP Jeff Hawkins.

Novell's Brainshare 2005: Day 2
03/22/2005 03:45 PMCEO Jack Messman kicked off Day 2 at Brainshare 2005 with a confident
keynote that recounted promises made last year, Novell's execution of
those, and a flurry of new product announcements. If Novell is acting
in desperation, as some have suggested of their move to Linux, it
doesn't show itself in their public face. NewsForge also spent some
time on the exhibition floor and a lot of time in the press room,
where Novell was conducting rapid-fire one-on-one briefings for the
media.

LinuxWorld Expo 2005
LinuxWorld Expo 2005
03/14/2005 04:52 PMLinuxWorld Expo is one of the biggest corporate Linux events of the
year. All the major players in Linux are there, plus a whole bunch of
familiar names from the open source community. This year, Ars Technica
sent a couple of correspondents to LinuxWorld Expo 2005 to report back
on happenings there. Jorge Castro and Matt Woodward spent the day
wandering around the floor, visiting the corporate side and the .Org
Pavillion.
The non-commercial .Org Pavilion was packed most of the
day. The KDE, GNOME, LTSP, Gentoo, X.org, and Fedora booths saw lots
of activity, and it was fun to see attendees interacting with the
hackers that make their software.
The announc
ement of Novell's Hula was definitely the big news of the day, but
that's not all. Check out day one of the Linux.Ars coverage of the
Expo.
FireFox "Best In Show" at LinuxWorld
FireFox "Best In Show" at LinuxWorld
08/04/2004 05:03 PMMozilla FireFox has been
awarded "Best In Show" at the LinuxWorld conference, which is
taking place this week at the Moscone Center in 'Frisco.
"The winners of the LinuxWorld Product Excellence Awards
represent the best that open source has to offer," said Warwick
Davies, group vice president, IDG World Expo. "With the help of
LinuxWorld Magazine and our experienced judges, we have selected the
most innovative and effective solutions for users of Linux and open
source. We applaud the developers of these solutions for their hard
work and dedication to innovation."
The "Best of Show" award, which recognizes a product deemed by the
judges to be an important advancement and a major step forward for
Linux in the marketplace, was presented to the Mozilla Foundation for
Mozilla FireFox.
It's great to see FireFox get such a nod, but I'll admit that I'd
never heard of the rest of the winners.
Incidentally, Netcraft found it amusing that the
LinuxWorld web site runs on Windows Server 2003.
