Harris & Baseview on Wednesday announced that it's now shipping iQue Server 4.0, a major upgrade to the developer's editorial development system. Microsoft's Encarta encyclopedia project often seems to be forgotten in all of the various arguments over Wikipedia, but it appears that they're feeling a bit of the Wikipedia-induced heat. They're going to now make it easier for people to suggest changes to Encarta entries, if they feel they're wrong. Of course, those changes will still be reviewed by an editor, so it's not really wiki-like at all -- but that won't stop the press from making the connection. It's just that Encarta is making the "feedback" functionality a little more prominent and hoping that this allows them to catch some of the Wikipedia hype wave.

Dave Winer reports that Enycyclopedia Britannica now offers an RSS feed for the daily content that appears on the home page. EB is one of my new member libraries (thanks to last year's merger), and one of their librarians came to my RSS class last year. By the end of it, her RSS light bulb was shining brightly, and she talked about going back to the office and pursuing RSS for the company. Hmmmmmmm...did a librarian lead the way???....

Once completed, the Internet Encyclopedia of Ukraine (IEU) will be the most comprehensive source of information in English on Ukraine, its history, people, geography, society, economy, and cultural heritage. At present, the IEU team is working on phase 1 of the project: the creation of an Internet database containing the revised and updated contents of the five-volume Encyclopedia of Ukraine (University of Toronto Press, 1984-93) edited by Volodymyr Kubijovyc (vols. 1-2) and Danylo Husar Struk (vols. 3-5). Less than eight percent of this information is currently displayed on their site. New entries are being edited, updated, and added daily. The NavMan PiN 100 PocketPC is available in the US, according to PDALive. Running Windows Mobile 2003 (not Second Edition, sadly), the NavMan orients around built-in GPS hardware and software, but is also able to do all the other good stuff you'd expect from a Pocket PC, like play MP3s and the like. Oddly, they're reporting that the included SD card can only be used with the specific NavMan PiN it comes with -- maybe there is DRM'd software preinstalled? Whatever the deal, the $500 PiN also has an SD slot for storing additional maps and data.

MATT GALLANT -- Also, your dead relatives love you and don't want you to be sad. Today, Midway has shipped Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy for PS2 and Xbox. Psi-Ops is a third-person stealth/action game where you play as psychic commando Nick Scryer. Your mission is to go undercover (hint: don't tell anyone your last name) and infiltrate "The Movement", a terrorist organization that usually strikes about fifteen minutes after breakfast and then again late in the evening.

As you can see in the screenshot, you'll have the power to lift things and set them on fire using only the powers of your mind and melodramatic poses. Hopefully Nick will also have to shout "BEHOLD!" to make with the burning and flinging. Nick can also learn to telepathically control enemies, do some remote viewing of inaccessible locations, see auras, and drain brains. You'll also have an array of conventional weapons which you can fire using only the power of your index finger, for when your brain gets tired.
