HR Outsourcing: Big companies are making

HR Outsourcing: Big companies are making
the shift from in-house to outsourcing
05/31/2004 01:47 PM
According to a new study, the world’s largest companies were more inclined to outsource HR functions in 2003 than in 2002. And if they weren’t outsourcing at the time of the latest survey, most were thinking about it. Another finding: Those who are outsourcing are, for the most part, happy in their choice. However, while outsourcing increased in many areas, such as 401 K plans and call centers, it decreased slightly in recruiting. In this article, MedZilla interviews the survey’s author and reports on its findings. [PRWEB May 28, 2004]

CustomFlix DVD Distribution on Demand

"While I frequently talk about creating DVDs from family movies, there are certainly plenty of potentially commercial projects that need to go beyond the home computer and into a distribution pipeline. While burning DVDs from your PC is an option, this also means taking responsibility for fulfillment and all the headaches associated with shipping physical goods. Mastering houses can produce large print runs of your DVD content, but then a risk of being stuck with hundreds of extra copies is introduced. For a small fee, someone else can take on the fulfillment headache for you and keep the inventory levels down to a minimum. CustomFlix is that someone else. For a $49 setup fee, plus a per sale fee, CustomFlix manages distribution, provides online trailers of your DVD, prints artwork on the packaging and allows you to focus on all the details of content creation." [Jake Ludington's Digital Lifestyle]

I wanted to highlight this service in case there are libraries that could make use of it either as a fundraising tool or simply for cost-recovery to create video media for local history information, digitization projects, and the like. Could be interesting, especially if you don't have the resources to do this yourself.

Profits and Manage Change While Reducing
the Costs and Risks of Expansion
06/23/2004 03:08 AM
It’s a myth that the information technology (IT) requirements of emerging and midsize businesses are simpler than those of large enterprises. Virtually every day, we interact with the technology and business leaders of midsize companies whose IT demands not only rival the requirements of much larger companies, but in many cases exceed them.Fortunately, emerging and midsize businesses can resolve the dilemma of updating their outmoded IT infrastructure without massive one-time investments in technology. New technologies, such as Microsoft® .NET, enable companies to leverage previous investments in technology while step-by-step integrating their business systems to enable an efficient, cost-effective, and flexible solution to driving and managing growth.
