Layer-7 Packet Classifier for Linux 1.2
(Netfilter 2.4/2.6 patches branch)
04/13/2005 04:07 AM

L7-filter is a Netfilter match module which classifies packets based on application layer (OSI layer 7) data. This means that it is able to classify packets as HTTP, FTP, Gnucleus, Kazaa, etc., regardless of ports. It complements existing matches that classify based on port numbers, packet length, TOS bits, and so on. Combined with Linux QoS, it allows for full layer 7 packet shaping.

Changes:
This release fixes a memory leak in the 2.6 kernel and a compilation problem in the 2.4 kernel.

Resolver User Layer Interface 0.33

Resolver User Layer Interface 0.33
(Default branch)
06/17/2005 04:58 PM
RULI stands for Resolver User Layer Interface. It's a library built on top of an asynchronous DNS stub resolver. RULI provides an easy-to-use interface for querying DNS SRV resource records. The main goal is to promote wide deployment of SRV-cognizant programs. RULI aims to automatically perform all the SRV logic described by RFC 2782, and to comply with related specifications. As a side-effect, RULI also provides a general-purpose, event-driven, asynchronous, stub DNS resolver. There are bindings for Perl, PHP, Guile/Scheme, Java, and Lua. IPv6 is supported.

Changes:
This release adds support for RFC3484 destination address selection rules and changes ruli_getaddrinfo() to respect the address family specified in hints.

GNU Transport Layer Security Library

GNU Transport Layer Security Library
1.2.1 (Default branch)
04/05/2005 11:56 AM
GNU Transport Layer Security Library is a library which implements a secure layer over a reliable transport layer such as TCP/IP. It implements the TLS 1.0 and SSL 3.0 protocols, accompanied with authentication methods such as X.509, OpenPGP, and SRP.
Changes:
gnutls_bye() will no longer fail when RDWR is used and application data are available for reading. More strict checks for the SRP parameters. A warning to certtool when MD5 is being used for digital signatures. Optimizations ("-O2 -finline-functions") are not enabled by default. The option --get-dh-params has been added to certtool in order to get the parameters included in the library primes and generators. Improved semantics of X.509 certificate verification. Nettle self tests now build properly. Some memory leaks in DHE and RSA-EXPORT cipher suites have been eliminated. Some X.509 attribute functions have been added.

When Lycoris released a new version of its popular Linux operating system, Desktop/LX 1.4, this week, it also debuted a new application integration infrastructure, nicknamed AI2 (A-I-squared). The company claims that AI2 "bridges the gap" between commercial Linux applications and the Linux desktop. Already, one major Linux application vendor, NeTraverse, has had its flagship desktop product, Win4Lin Workstation, integrated with Lycoris' Desktop/LX operating system using the AI2 system. But is AI2 really as revolutionary as Lycoris claims? Even if it is, does it matter?

XV Jumbo Patches 20050410 (Default
branch)
04/11/2005 03:05 PM
The XV "jumbo" patches are a pair of aggregate patches against XV 3.10a, which was last released in December 1994. The first jumbo patch incorporates roughly two dozen bugfixes. The second patch encompasses almost as many enhancements, including support for additional image formats like PNG, PhotoCD, and PDF; performance improvements; and new features such as mouse-wheel support, alpha blending against a background color, and improved dithering for 15/16-bit displays. All patches available from the official XV site are included, as well as numerous other patches from around the world.
Changes:
This release (correctly) fixes heap overflows in most of the image decoders; the third-party patches distributed in September 2004 were incomplete. In addition, it fixes some display bugs in the TIFF and XWD decoders, adds full support for version-4 BMPs ("bitfields"), and includes some other small improvements.

2.4 branch)

Kernel Mode Linux 2.4.30_001 (For Linux
2.4 branch)
04/05/2005 11:56 AM
Kernel Mode Linux is a technology which enables the execution of user programs in a kernel mode. In Kernel Mode Linux, user programs can access kernel address space directly. Unlike kernel modules, user programs are executed as ordinary processes (except for their privilege level), so scheduling and paging are performed as usual. Although it seems dangerous, the safety of the kernel can be ensured through such methods as static type checking, software fault isolation, and so forth.
Changes:
This version was merged with the 2.4.30 Linux kernel.

MOSIX Cluster Management 1.13.1 for
Linux 2.4.30 (Linux 2.4 branch)
04/07/2005 10:26 AM
MOSIX is a management system that allows a cluster of x86 nodes to perform like a parallel computer. It is particularly suitable to run intensive computing and massive I/O applications. In a MOSIX system there is no need to modify applications, link them with any library, or even assign processes to different nodes. It is done automatically, just "fork and forget", like in an SMP system. MOSIX is geared toward improved performance, overhead-free scalability and ease-of-use.
