Royalty Free Canada

Royalty Free Canada 06/30/2004 09:08 PM
The Supreme Court of Canada ruled that Canadian ISPs will not have to pay royalties to music artists from music downloaded by internet downloaders. Apparently companies offering internet services are looked upon as “intermediaries” and will not be held responsible for the downloading music from file sharing networks. In court, the ISPs argued that artists need to seek royalties elsewhere and not from ISPs specifically. The court agreed with a ruling in favor of the ISPs.

attackers
02/05/2005 10:11 PM
A German news site has offered a bounty of €10,000 (about $12,000 US) to anyone who provides information leading to the capture of the perpetrator(s) of a distributed denial of service attack against the site. The Age is reporting today that Heise Online, one of the biggest German publishers online, is seeking information about the machines that actively took part in the attacks on February 1 and February 2. According to the Internet Storm Center, Heise said the attacks targeted port 80 (on which a webserver normally runs), first hitting 193.99.144.71 and later 193.99.144.85. It said the sender addresses were spoofed and, in some cases, addresses reserved for private networks were used. Another similar attack targeted the Heise mailserver (193.99.145.50) on port 25 (the standard port for SMTP services) during the same timeframe. Heise said the logs of routers may show accumulations of packets which were 40 bytes long.

Microsoft Continues Commitment to Open

Microsoft Continues Commitment to Open
and Royalty-Free XML Schemas
04/15/2004 11:48 AM
Microsoft Corp. today announced the addition of the XML schema used by Microsoft® Office Visio® 2003, DataDiagramML, to the Microsoft Open and Royalty-Free Office 2003 XML reference schema program announced in November 2003. Through the Microsoft documentation and a royalty-free license, customers and partners can take advantage of the XML schema in its diagramming and data visualization tool. The availability of the Visio schema builds on Microsoft's commitment to XML by providing a complete and W3C-compliant description of the Visio Extensible Markup Language (XML) file format, enabling organizations to access information captured in their Visio diagrams and use it with other XML-enabled applications, such as customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, as part of their business processes. While Microsoft is providing this documentation in an effort to aid solution providers and in-house developers who want to create Visio solutions, some early adopters already have begun developing solutions with Visio 2003, and have touted DataDiagramML's usefulness in creating data visualization solutions.

Pansori

Pansori 04/07/2005 10:46 PM

Here are some links to samples of pansori, traditional Korean music which to me sounds like a wonderful fusion of opera and street rap.  Pansori can be a monologue by a singler or a dialogue between two or more singers.  Interaction with the audience is also not uncommon in informal performances or if the audience is small.  Feedback is usually short affirmative shouts like JOTTAH! (great) or prodding like GOORAESU (Go on!).

This is only a small subset of varieties of pansori there are.  My favorite kind of pansori sound is very similar in tone to daekoom except it feels as if daekoom was made out of human bone, dipped in tears for years, burnt over fires of war, and speckled with fading spots of blood.  Sorry if I am being too graphical but this is what soul music is to me.

And here is a short sample of the Millenium Crane instrumental (731K MP3) mentioned in my previous post.  Very moving and graceful like an ancient crane in flight.

The new audio files are downloaded and added to a playlist in iTunes, which you can easily sync with your iPod. It also checks for files that have been listened to and deletes them, making podcast management transparent.
Changes:
Shows that have already been downloaded are shown on the info panel in dark grey. Shows that have not been downloaded are in black. Handling of some temporary files has been improved. A better icon image with a drop shadow. A new button on the info pane to let you set a feed to download more than one new file when using the Update Feeds button.
