Lyra Research’s new report, "Commercial Printing: An Overview of Production and Wide-Format," is essential reading for vendors in the commercial printing market. The report focuses on key trends in commercial printing, including sharp increases in sales of eco-solvent or mild solvent wide-format printers, declining prices for wide-format devices, and inexpensive Chinese wide-format printer products entering the European and U.S. markets. On the narrow-format side, acquisitions by key players have taken center stage. [PRWEB May 18, 2005]

Key factors driving movement of SCO
Group stock, Part 2
04/21/2004 11:22 AM
Aside from some news that has been a catalyst for moving the SCOX stock price this year, there have been a number of other factors that have been driving it. They include: Insider sales (it's noteworthy that management has been selling, not buying!), Trading by various funds/investors with large positions in the stock (such as Royce, Canopy, etc.) probably including some ramping by the PIPE investors to help prop up the stock price, and SCO Group's stock buy-back program (in my view, a last-ditch attempt to manipulate the stock price).

Apple gets aggressive in Korean MP3

Apple gets aggressive in Korean MP3
market
02/01/2005 09:36 PM
Apple is reported to have raised the stakes in the Korean MP3 player market by announcing yesterday that it will lower the price of its iPod only in Korea. According to a report in the Joon Ang Daily, the discounts are only for Apple's hard-disk drive music players and exclude the iPod Shuffle. The report also claims local representatives asked the media to "keep quiet" about the price cuts, saying that headquarters feared opposition from other Asian countries. The lower prices of iPods give Apple a competitive edge in both flash-memory and hard-disk drive digital music player markets. At 125,400 won ($122), the 512-megabyte model of the iPod Shuffle is less than Reigncom's 256-MB model, which was only recently lowered from 187,000 won to 149,000 won. A 20-gigabyte iPod now costs 363,000 won, instead of 418,000 won. The iRiver hard-disk model has only 5 GB of memory for the same price. "It seems that Apple has chosen Korea as the battleground because they want to get their grips on the local market here before they deal with Korean MP3 makers abroad," said an official at Samsung Electronics in the news article. He said that Apple currently has less than 1 percent of the local MP3 market, which is why it seeks a larger share. The Joon Ang Daily reports that although domestic companies claim that they are not worried, they admit that Apple's presence is pressing them to lower costs as well. Reigncom lowered its hard-disk drive player prices last week. Meanwhile, they are looking at foreign markets, saying that the domestic market for MP3 players is already on the verge of saturation.

Forecasts for Higher Bandwidth Broadband
Services - New TFI Telecom Market
Research Report
12/17/2004 06:31 PM
According to a new report by Technology Futures, Inc. (TFI), by 2006, one-half of U.S. households will subscribe to broadband access, and a shift to much higher data rates in the range of 24 Mb/s to 100 Mb/s will have begun. By 2010, U.S. broadband penetration of 75% is likely, and 10% to 20% of U.S. households will subscribe to very high-speed-broadband. In the process, most of the local exchange carriers current investment in copper cable will be made obsolete. The new study, "Forecasts for Higher Bandwidth Broadband Services," authored by Lawrence K. Vanston, Ph.D. (President, TFI), forecasts how bandwidth requirements will increase over time and addresses the applications requiring higher speed. In doing so, it reviews what is happening in South Korea (where broadband penetration already exceeds 70%), Japan, and Italy - current leaders in the migration to higher data rates. Your Ex-Carrier Can Stalk You

Your Ex-Carrier Can Stalk You 07/26/2004 06:02 PM
Database company Accudata has a new offering likely to annoy the hell out of many people. They're offering a service to carriers to help them track down and annoy anyone who has ditched them for a better provider. So, if you thought you had finally gotten rid of those awful "we want you back" letters by changing your phone number, your address, and possibly your name -- too bad. Accudata is on the case and going to make sure that the rest of your life (starting 24 hours from when the carrier gives them your name) you will be hounded by requests to come back to the carrier who wouldn't seem to lift a finger to help you when you actually were a customer, but preferred to charge you extra fees for just about everything. If an ex-significant other did something like this, it would be called stalking. However, apparently, in the business world, it's called "marketing." Next thing you know, your carrier will start making drunk phone calls to you at 2am wishing they had you back as a customer...
