Among three new cell phones announced by the company on Thursday, Nokia introduced its new 7280 model, which features leather and mirror accents, a high-gloss finish and a sliding cover for the lens that offers VGA-quality snapshots. It can sync with your Mac via Bluetooth to transfer photos, songs, videos, ring tones and wallpapers back and forth. Its display supports 104 x 208 resolution and up to 65,536 colors, with the ability to stream video, and its Lithium Ion battery allows up to three hours of talk time and up to 240 hours of standby time. Nokia expects to make the 7280 available in the fourth quarter; pricing was not released.

We've talked about these videos a while ago. Microsoft has since added a few more videos, each of them offering a detailed look at not only the new technologies but the potential applications for them. All of the presentations look at Avalon, Indigo, and other technologies to be featured in Longhorn.

Two clips on my site related to the RNC protests. First, caricature as protest: the Billionaires for Bush. Among their rallying cries - Lower the Minimum Wage! No Justice, No Problem! In this clip they urge watching more Fox TV, chant "This is what plutocracy looks like!" and thank the other 99% for their tax dollars. The other clip is a protestor's eye view of the day. A short montage of protest signs, and a wide shot of the march on Seventh Avenue, full of peaceful folks as far as you can see.

Cory Doctorow: In 2004, the 4th annual Nolan award selected a collection of videos of Quake speedruns -- levels played at maximum speed, by gamers who'd memorized the fastest and most expedient route through each maze -- and posted them in video form to the Internet Archive. I spent endless hours playing Quake I, sometimes in cheat modes that let me fly over the levels, passing through walls and so forth, just exploring the amazing spaces that the game's desingers had laid out.

Watching these videos made my pulse quicken and my body jerk from side to side as the players executed virtuoso rocket-jumps and precision target-shooting of monsters as they lurched around corners. Link (Thanks, Drew!)
