Ten years ago, the closest that most private individuals came to trading foreign exchange was a visit to the Bureau de Change at the airport before flying off for their holidays. Now, however, the invitation is open for every active trader, investor and portfolio builder to participate in a market that has become both accessible and extremely profitable. Foreign exchange trading has arrived, and the doors are wide-open to the largest financial market in the world. [PRWEB Jun 12, 2004]

Napster: From Trading Music To Trading
on the Stock Exchange

Napster: From Trading Music To Trading
on the Stock Exchange
09/19/2004 09:28 AM
Like a phoenix from the ashes, Napster has come back not once, but twice it seems. Since Roxio bought the Napster name and logo a couple years ago at a bankruptcy auction, Napster received a new "lease on life". This time around Napster isn't just a service, it's to become a public company and will be traded on the stock exchange.

Roxio has recently sold off it's CD-burning software business in a move to concentrate solely on selling music online. Using Napster as it's company name, it will allow Roxio to compete with other online music delivery services from the likes of Microsoft, Yahoo!, and Apple.

Roxio's sale of its software business landed them a cool $80 million in cash and stocks which will give Napster a cash base of more than $100 million once the deal closes, expected by year's end.

"One of the most important questions for our investors is, 'Does Napster have the staying power to stay and thrive?' Having the cash answers that question," said Chris Gorog, chief executive and chairman of Roxio.

It will be more than enough to cover Napster until it becomes profitable, Gorog said, "and we're on a clear path to do that."

Judge: RIAA can't subpoena file-trader
information
12/19/2003 03:44 PM
The Recording Industry Association of America Inc. (RIAA) does not have the authority under U.S. law to subpoena the names of alleged peer-to-peer file traders from ISPs (Internet service providers), a federal appellate court ruled Friday. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia overturned a lower court's decision allowing the RIAA to file subpoenas asking Verizon Internet Services Inc. to turn over the names of suspected copyright infringers without the RIAA having to file lawsuits against the alleged file traders. But the RIAA's argument that the subpoenas allowed in the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) apply to material transmitted through an ISP as well as content stored by an ISP "borders upon the silly," the court wrote.

A mini-guide to Mac OS X for new Mini
owners

A mini-guide to Mac OS X for new Mini
owners
02/01/2005 08:53 PM

Apple finally went and released an inexpensive computer. With the advent of the Mac mini, some Windows and Linux users who have been curious about Mac OS X but turned off by Apple's high prices have finally bit the bullet and ordered a mini.

Trying an unfamiliar operating system can be irritating at times. Things are not where you expect them to be, the GUI is different, and connecting to servers and other PCs can be frustrating. Hence the mini-guide.

This is not intended to be a comprehensive guide to all things OS X. Its purpose is to help those new to the operating system do simple things, like use a Windows printer, connect to a network share, and figure out what the key with the funny-looking squiggle on it next to the spacebar does (or even use your PC keyboard with a Mac). So if you're an "adder" and are feeling a bit out of sorts, check out our guide.

Six months

Six months 01/02/2005 09:19 PM
It has now been exactly six months. And I still love her, more than ever. I feel the pressure of the everyday life coming in, and life is no longer the rose petals and bird song it used to be - but I still want her, need her, and long for her when she is away.

Six months.

When we started, we said that okay - let this be a summer romance, if nothing else.

The nights turned dark, and we were together.

The leaves turned red and yellow, and I still spent my money on flight tickets.

The trees became barren and lifeless, and she still sat on the train for hours to come to me.

The snow has fallen, and I look in her eyes and still see that same twinkle that seduced me on that night.

Six months is not really that long for a relationship. But it's a good start. A very good start.
