Handbag sophistication meets form and function in She-Tech.com’s new line of women’s laptop cases for Spring/Summer 2005. Building upon the success of their debut line, She-Tech.com, an Atlanta-based designer and online retailer of laptop cases for women, once again bridges style, fashion, and function; this time by combining handbag craftsmanship with bold and bright textiles. Vaio Spring 2005 Desktop Lineup 01/05/2005 01:46 PM

vaio_desktop.jpg imageHaving just talked about the new Vaio laptops, I somehow feel obligated to mention the new Vaio desktops. But are they really new? No.

On the very high end of things is the Vaio type R desktop, with a 3.8 GHz CPU, two 250GB hard drives (intertwined by RAID 0, nonetheless), and 1GB of RAM. It also includes a 20" LCD, which when you think about the 460,000 yen price tag (about $4,400 USD), is entirely understandable.

Working our way down the ranks, through the two other type R models, three type HX models, three type V models, and two type M models, we finally reach the bottom of the pack — the Vaio type M "VGC-M31B/W" has a 15.4" screen, 2.7 GHz CPU, 256MB of RAM, and integrated video (good 'ol SiS), and costs around 160,000 yen (about $1,538 USD).

Vaio Spring 2005 Notebook Lineup

Vaio Spring 2005 Notebook Lineup 01/05/2005 01:46 PM

vaio_notebook.jpg imageSony has announced their Spring 2005 lineup of Vaio laptops. Things look to to be pretty standard, with simple updates to the current type S, type T, type A, and type E notebooks (spells EAST), but they've also got two new ones — the type Y and type F (spelling FEASTY, or F YEAST). The type Y is a single-spindle notebook (meaning it has no optical drive; the only "spindle" is the hard drive), oriented towards business users, and comes in around $1600 USD with a 1.6GHz Pentium M, 256MB of RAM, 60GB hard drive, and Intel 855GME chipset. Not exactly anything to sneeze about.

But the type F could be — it has a 15.5" widescreen LCD, and due to some fancy construction terminology, this screen is a mere 7.7mm thick. While the type F is available in a range of processing powers and chipsets, the most powerful of these would be the Intel 915 chipset, including a 1.73GHz Pentium M, 512MB of DDR2 SDRAM, and even a GeForce Go 6200. In a bizarre move, Sony is also including a SD card adapter with each type F notebook.

Women Into Tech, But Not Into Tech
Jargon
09/07/2004 05:03 AM
While there have been some stories in the past suggesting that women are just as into gadgets as men, a new study in the UK suggests that even if that's true, they're not as on top of the gadget jargon as guys. Nearly all women in the study (96%) said they "lacked confidence" when a discussion turned technical, and most claimied they had no clue what words like kbps, ISP and googling meant. Only half of the women surveyed knew that 512kbps was approximately 10 times faster than dialup, while nearly 80% of the guys did. Of course, it wasn't so much lack of knowledge, but lack of concern. When asked about their broadband connection, women generally said: "It works, it's fast - that's all I need to know."

Summer 2005 Vaio Notebooks 04/12/2005 11:31 AM

2k5_vaioNB.jpg imageApart from the new Vaio type H desktop we just told you about, Sony announced new Vaio type A, S, and F notebooks. The type A series now includes FeliCa contactless IC support, and adds a model with a 15.4" screen to the lineup. Vaio type S is renewed with better specifications such as a Pentium M 750, 512MB of RAM, an 80GB hard drive, and GeForce Go 6200. Finally, the type Fs contain a range of specification improvements across all models, but of note would be the new "TV Port Replicator," an optional MPEG-2 hardware encoder board available for about 30,000 yen. Sadly, it seems Sony has omitted FeliCa support in the type S and F notebooks.
