Music Of The Night 04/10/2005 05:54 AM

In order to curtail the complaints of angry airport neighbors who have recently been subjected to noisy America West flights returning from Vegas at 1.30 in the morning, the FAA has bribed the residents with nothing more than an iPod and an apology. By Laurie Duncan, Unofficial Apple Weblog

I'm just going to throw out a quick good morning to David Galbraith, Jish, Heather, Derek, Ben & Mena, Rebecca B, Lance, Sippey, Webb, Ezra, Jim Speth, Ben Cerveny, Min Jung and the other million other people who I can't quite focus on or remember at this precise moment because of slightly too many cocktails with long straws.

Night All

Ok.  Its officially now 19 straight hours at the keyboard.  The last database update for today is done.  The database is up to 14818 posts, 1309 rss urls and all seems well and good.  Am I 100% happy?  Of course not.  There's like a zillion and one things to do but "bit by bit" you know.

I'll be online and grinding on this all day tomorrow I suspect.

Bad day. Two unscheduled meetings, one scheduled, but failed meeting, far too much email, far too much confusion, lost laptop, and to top it all off, an unnecessary ride back home to check whether I left the iron on.

The trams and stars don't care. They just travel on their paths, unaware of the problems of the insignificant little creatures that happen to be traveling along.

German company RapidSolution Software has released the Windows software Tunebite. Music tracks purchased from the Internet are copy-protected and involve important restrictions for many users when they are played back. With the option to re-record them while they are played, Tunebite legally provides the user with new music files without restrictions. This ensures that music bought from Apple iTunes, Sony Connect, AOL or other music platforms in the Internet can be played back and listened to from everywhere. [PRWEB Sep 13, 2004]

This visual music search engine lets you type in the name of an artist and it displays related artists. I thought I'd stump it by entering "Robert Crumb" (the cartoonist, who used to play tenor banjo in one of my favorite bands, The Cheap Suit Serenaders). I'll be damned if Music Plasma didn't display my very favorite musicians right next to his name. Link (Thanks, Anthony!)

Warner Music Tries (And Fails) To Make
Friends With Music Bloggers
08/16/2004 06:48 AM
MP3 blogs have been getting a lot of attention lately. The blogs, which usually focus on certain genres of music with the idea to highlight or expose certain new or obscure acts to a wider audience are growing in popularity. They often post an entire MP3 as well. However, it appears that some of the attention directed at these blogs made it to some executives at Warner Brothers Records. In a moment of enlightenment (considering typical record company reaction), instead of trying to shut these sites down, they decided to see what would happen if they embraced them. Someone from Warner contacted a number of these blogs, including an MP3 from a band they wanted to promote. This is somewhat surprising, as many of the sites certainly expected to get sued before they received MP3s from a major label. Still, the effort had its problems. The musician had already been featured months ago on some of the sites, and didn't fit at all with the focus of some of the other sites. Plus, the fear of looking like record company lackeys didn't appeal to many of the sites. Even worse, though, was that on the one site that did post the tracks, a number of out-of-place comments began appearing talking about how "awesome" the band was. A quick check of the IP addresses of the posters, though, showed they came from... Warner Brothers. So, while it's really great that they're actually trying to embrace these sorts of promotions, they still need to learn a thing or two about dealing with bloggers. Still, it's clearly a step forward from an industry that hasn't made many steps in that direction recently.

"Time passes, or rather doesn't pass. It is just there, solid as a coffee mug on the diner's counter. Time hangs like the reek of old tobacco in the hotel furniture". We all think we know Edward Hopper's images, even if we've never seen his paintings. Somehow the solidity of the world -- even the sky is like a wall -- is at odds with the transience of the people in it, however long they sit and stand and wait. Hopper's people, like Manet's figures , often appear consumed by the irreducible business of being. Hopper, too, would descend into his own silences, would delay himself in self-doubt... What a day and half a night!

What a day and half a night! 06/25/2004 07:09 AM

Well I have had one heck of day woke up this morning to agonizing back pain stretched for a while to try and get the back to loosen up. Went downstairs and found the meds the doc had stocked me up on. A OxyCooden and a Flexeril and 20 minutes later I was doing much better. After a 2 hour nap I am up trying to get some work done. Start off and play around with Top Style and Homesite deciding that I still like Hotmetal better for regular html stuff but Top Style is the ticket for CSS. Went ahead and paid for that over the web and no I don't have to deal with the trial nags.

About 2 this afternoon I decide I have the templates and the CSS cleaned up as much as it is gonna be on the MT3 Test site and decide to roll the production to MT3 along with a couple of other sites I run. Start backups of the 2.6 site along with downloading the databases etc. Between a run to the pharmacy dinner and messing with the kids. This site is now running MT3. I then decided to do some house cleaning on the Laptop as I have been abusing it for the past 2 months and needed to get all of the software I have bought along with all of the programs that I decided where not worth it de-installed and general file organization. Burn a couple of Master DVD's etc etc etc. So here I am at 1:45am Hawaiian time and I am ready to see what has happened in the tech world news. No wonder my wife calls me nuts sometimes.

But I will tell you one thing that I have been able to get done while recovering from spine surgery is that I am remote logging into all of my machines and getting them organized and sync'd. Wife said her PC has not run this good in a couple of years. Amazing what you can get done when you have nothing but time on your hands.

The Night before Christmas

The Night before Christmas 12/24/2003 07:05 PM
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the site, Not a poster was stirring, not even to fight; Ante and Don were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that Spymac 3 would soon be there; The members were nestled all snug in their beds While visions of new features danced in their heads; And Kristie in her 'kerchief and Atari in cap, Had just settled down for a long winters nap.

Ray and I headed down to Southern California today. We left my new place around 8:30am and arrived in Huntington Beach so that I could collect some equipment, drop off a check, and do the necessary paperwork to become the new owner of N304GT. We're staying with Steve in Tustin, who's an amazing host. He prepared a most excellent grill feast for us this evening: beer, shrimp, peppers, steak, and more! I'm sooooo stuffed. Tomorrow morning we'll head to Hemet...
