X-Plane 8.11 Release-Candidate 1 (Beta
branch)
04/08/2005 04:25 AM

X-Plane is a flight simulator that reads in the
geometric shape of any aircraft and then figures
out how that aircraft will fly. It does this via
an engineering process called "blade element
theory", which involves breaking the aircraft down
into many small elements and then finding the
forces on each little element many times per
second. These forces are then converted into
accelerations, which are then integrated to
velocities and positions. This gives X-Plane the
most realistic flight model available for personal
computers.

mathematical functions, and programs from various
languages (such as C or Fortran) can be added
interactively. It has sophisticated data
structures (including lists, polynomials, rational
functions, and linear systems), an interpreter,

can define new data types and operations on these
data types by using overloading. A number of
toolboxes are available with the system.
Changes:
There is a new interface to call Scilab from Java. The TCL interface
has been totally rewritten. There is an improved Scipad editor, a new
debugger, major graphics improvements, major Scicos improvements,
improved efficiency of sparse operators, improved matlab2sci
translator, new import of Excel files, and more. The source compiles
on 64-bit architectures, and the Windows version has been optimized.
