Prototype Treo 650 pictures, or a new Windows Mobile-powered
'Treo 670?' The guy who took these pictures said it ran Windows
Mobile. PalmOne should be able to tell us for sure: if they say it's a
mock-up, it doesn't run Windows Mobile. If they don't say anything at
all, it has to be true.

Orange/Treo 600 Upgrade Problems
06/07/2004 10:22 AM
UK reader Robert Forrest writes:
PalmOne have
released an upgrade (1.12) for the Treo 600 Smartphone. I downloaded
it from the Orange UK website (there's a link from the PalmOne site
and Orange UK supplied the phone in the first place). After the
installation of the upgrade, the touch screen doesn't work. Without
the stylus/touchscreen a lot of software and phone facilities are
difficult, inconvenient or impossible to use. If this isn't just some
idiosyncrasy of my phone and software combination, Treo/Orange are
going to have a lot of hacked off customers out
there.
Anyone else having these problems?

Still no Treo 600 for T-Mobile
12/02/2003 04:53 PMIt's December already and T-Mobile still isn't carrying the Treo 600.
Shedding some light on the matter is an email that reader Zachary
Conine just recently received from their customer service:Thank you
for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. We are currently experiencing
some problems regarding synching the Treo 600 with our network which
has delayed the release of this device. We hope to have these issues
resolved in a timely matter and should be releasing this device
sometime in December. So T-Mobile subscribers lusting after the Treo
600 are either going to have wait a little while longer, buy an
unlocked Treo 600 and hope it works, or switch to another carrier....

11/14/2003 04:03 PMAfter our post yesterday about how AT&T Wireless is finally carrying
the Treo 600, a few people wrote in asking when T-Mobile would get its
act together and finally offer the new smartphone as well. Well,
rather than pester us about this (not that we minded), resourceful
reader Zach Conine just contacted T-Mobile customer service directly,
and they told him that they're planning to "launch support" for the

about the recently leaked Windows Mobile 2005 for the past few days

and wrote a pretty in-depth walkthrough. The author clarifies that the
build he installs and discusses is a beta version, so keep that in
mind. Either way, the write up is detailed and outlines a lot of the
new features and interface changes, with lots of screenshots to
provide the eye candy. One thing is clear about the new version of
Windows Mobile—there's a serious gradient fetish going on.

Vodafone K.K. has announced that
they will release a "cameraless" version of the Mitsubishi V301D,
released back in October of last year. According to Vodafone, the
reason for this offering is so that those who work in factories and
other places where secrecy is important can still use their cellular
phones. Does this mean the phone is any cheaper? Hey, that's a good
one.

AudioVox: never again
AudioVox: never again
09/25/2004 03:11 PM
A couple months ago, I bought this cool new phone by Audiovox -- the
CMD8900. The speaker then quit working. I returned it to the store I
had bought it at (New Wireless, 107 West Portal Ave) at the end of
August. Last week, when it was still not back, I called and asked why.
New Wireless informed me all Audiovox repairs take "30 to 45 days." I
found that hard to believe, so I went to the Audiovox website, and
posted a question asking whether that was true. A week later, no
response still.
So though I have spent over $60 for wireless service this month, I've
had no wireless phone. And indeed, if this is Audiovox's policy, it is
a
really good reason not to rely upon that company. Unless of
course, your cell phone is just a toy which you don't really need, and
you don't mind spending scores of dollars for service that you cannot
use.

In
Om's very positive review of the Sprint Audiovox 6601 Pocket PC phone,
he writes, "I personally feel that Microsoft should stop trying to get
into all general purpose phones and instead focus on these high end
devices which make life easier for the 'enterprise user.'" That made
me wonder: is Microsoft marketing these devices to anybody
besides enterprise users (we geeky early-adopting types,
aside)? I think the genius of something like, say, the Sidekick II, is
that it has moved keyboard-based messaging into a form factor and a
user interface that even sassy debutants don't mind busting out in
public. I don't know that the target demographics' optimal form
factors are mutually exclusive (in concept), but I can promise you
that no one—even the enterprise user that Audiovox is
targeting—really wants to pull something this ugly out of their
pocket in the middle of a restaurant.
God I'm deep.

I can hardly

(That sounds like a load of fun to explain to the stewardesses.)
