DVForge releases another inspired product hampered by quality-control
issues.
Waterfield Bags launched a SleeveCase designed specifically for the
Mac Mini within weeks of the official Apple announcement. In its
default configuration as I received it, the SleeveCase is merely what
it claims to be, a case into which a Mac Mini will fit. However,
Waterfield offers a configuration with a detachable shoulder strap.
(
) This makes it very comparable to the eM2 bag we reviewed a
few weeks ago...
"The cornerstone of most open source application serving is the
ubiquitous LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP/Python/Perl) stack. Yet it's
not always as easy as you'd expect to get all the elements of the
stack properly installed and working together. Enter XAMPP..."
The iPod Camera Connector finally lets you download and immediately
view your pictures on an iPod photo. Handy though it is, it will tax
your iPod’s battery.
DVForge Jack Campbell announced that the original JamPod has been
pulled from production.
DVForge Inc. announced Friday ship dates for its JamPod, a plug-in
guitar practice amp module for Apple's iPod and iPod mini along with
JamPlug FM, a plug-in FM music transmitter for guitars and The Clips
-- a set of three mounting clips for the iPod shuffle.

Sendo X UK Review
Sendo X UK Review
06/29/2004 08:49 AM
Our friends at
AllAboutSymbian have their review of the late to the game Sendo X,
calling it the most desirable Series 60 handset in the world -- this
despite the fact that the Sendo X is a Series 60 1.2 phone, and not a
2.0 model. One of its strong suits, they say, is that it looks like a
phone, and not an "escapee from the Concept Labs," although the 5-way
joypad still leaves something to be desired (it's too easy to hit the
wrong button). Another interesting bit is an integrated white LED
"flash" that can be used to illuminate a scene without the sucking
down the battery like a traditional flash would. All around it looks
like an extremely well thought-out phone, and AllAboutSymbian gives it
a well thought-out review.

Doom 3 Review
08/11/2004 11:40 AMDoom 3 one of the scariest video games ever made: I'm
not much of a gamer, and I'm definately not much of a horror
afficionado. I'll leave this one for those who are.
What you see in this M-rated game is definitely NOT for children or
the squeamish. The vivid three-dimensional graphics, a true step
forward for computer games, allow for some extremely gross death
scenes involving large quantities of blood and various human and
monster guts. [...]
One nice touch adds a great deal of tension: you have a flashlight
that never runs out of power, but you can't use it at the same time as
your weapons. [...]
Doom 3 doesn't revolutionize computer games as we know them.
Rather, it polishes the horror-themed first-person shooter genre to a
high gloss.
It's not going to provoke any deep thoughts or philosophical
debate, but anyone looking for a good scare will enjoy this gorgeous
nail-biter.
SimCity is more my
speed.

JamPlug Guitar Amp
JamPlug Guitar Amp
08/16/2004 08:06 AM
DVForge's
new JamPlug, an in-line (well, I guess most audio equipment is inline,
but bear with me) amplifier that is billing itself as the "World's
Smallest Guitar Amp," and for once a world's-smallest claim is
probably on the money. The $60 piece runs on a single AAA battery and
has a pair of strangely-familiar matching white headphones. The thumb
wheel controls volume, and it even can be overdriven into some quality
of distortion, which probably isn't the best sounding fuzz or crunch
or whatever in the world, but if it can free the legion of pimply
guitar noodlers from the curse that is the Rockman Metal Ace, then the
amateur rock world will surely be a better place.
Won't ship until October, but you can get on the list now to be
notified.

Filemaker Pro 7 Review
Filemaker Pro 7 Review
04/18/2004 09:51 AMFileMaker
Pro 7 review by PC Magazine: Here an interesting review of the new
FileMaker Pro 7.
Compared with Microsoft Access, FileMaker retains a
distinctive edge in usability. Granted, Access has the advantage when
it comes to implementing larger-scale applications that have heftier
programmatic needs. But Version 7 extends FileMaker's appeal farther
into the midrange database space.
I played with this app once, and, true to its Mac roots, it was
intuitive and anything and just as easy to use.
I was encouraged to find a few ODBC
drivers as well, but if you're going to remove the interface,
what's the point? (Maybe not fair — I think there's a
legitimate use for data creation and administration via the client
app, and publishing to the world via the Web, but that's just me. Use
the app to manage to content, then just FTP it up to your
server.)
