The Bluetooth SIG, the group that controls the standards that define the short-range radio networking technology has announced a proposal for a new version of Bluetooth that offers data rates almost 3 times as fast as the previous version. Called Bluetooth EDR (for Enhanced Data Rate), the new specification claims data rates of up to 2.1Mbps and remains backward-compatible with the original Bluetooth spec. No word, however, if the enhanced data rate will causes a proportionate decrease in range, not unlike 802.11g compares to 802.11b.

it's great that there is a standard set of symbols in the works. it's still a little vague where to actually see them. why is the version only 0.9? can't you pull the trigger and publish 1.0? or am I just not finding it. having the version < 1 makes it seem like they should not be used yet.

I strongly suggest you clarify where to view the current set. put a link to "current symbol set" in your main menu. not as a topic of discussion, but a one page "this is it" place to view the definitions.

also, the PNG link is dead.

PC hardware review site EnvyNews reviews three low-end Bluetooth products from EPoX, the BT-HS01 wireless Bluetooth headset, the BT-DG03 Bluetooth USB Dongle, and probably most interesting, the BT-PA01 Bluetooth parallel printer port. While the dongle and headset come across only so-so, the BT-PA01 acts as a wireless parallel cable, allowing wireless connectivity to most older printers with only one catch: the communication is only one-way, meaning any diagnostic or error information sent by your printer back to your computer will be lost. Since most of us have USB or Ethernet-enable printers these days, this is a 'probably not needed by most, but nice to know it's there' sort of product.

Blueserker is reporting that Amazon is taking preorders for the BoomGear MP-820BT MP3 player for $180. The MP-820BT has integrated Bluetooth which can, when paired with your mobile phone, route incoming calls over your headphones and use the built-in microphone to talk about without ever pulling the phone out of your pocket. It only has 256MB of RAM built-in, but it does have an integrated FM tuner, so for the more mobile among us it could be a slick way to go hands-free.
