Epson PictureMate Printer Review
06/04/2004 10:35 AM
Remember the lunchbox-looking Epson PictureMate
inkjet printer? Well, Bios Magazine took it for a test spray and found
it to be more than just cute -- it's got a great picture quality, as
well. Epson is pushing the PictureMate as a competitor to other
companies' dye-sublimation printers, and its 6-color inkjet process
not only stands up in image quality, but it ends up being a lot
cheaper, as well. It also supports all your standard memory card
formats, like SD/MMC, Memory Stick, CF, Smart Media, and xD, as well
as direct printing from PictBridge/USB On-The-Go devices. It's even
got Bluetooth if you want to throw down an extra $100 or so for the
adapter.

Macworld review: Epson Stylus Pro 4000
06/01/2004 02:45 AMWith the $1,795 Stylus Pro 4000, Epson focused considerable energy on
improving the print engine, including minor improvements to print
quality. This was a wise decision; the 2200 and the 7600 produced
stunning prints, and Epson sticks with the same UltraChrome
pigment-ink formula in the 4000. As a result, the overall quality of
both color and monochrome prints is excellent.
iPod photo Review: 9 out of 10
iPod photo Review: 9 out of 10
03/29/2005 01:43 PMCNET Editors give the new iPod photo a 9 out of 10 rating, writing,
Thanks to a much lower price and a new, photographer-friendly
feature, the latest version of the iPod Photo should get more than its
share of looks. Offering a full-color, 16-bit screen as well as 30GB
and 60GB capacities, the iPod Photo displays photos and album art in
an interface thats undeniably Apple. From the ease with which
one loads photos on to the device to the browsing of thumbnails and
images on the iPod itself, the overall experience is positive and
warm. [Mar 28, 2005]
Review: Canon Ink-Jet Photo Printers
Review: Canon Ink-Jet Photo Printers
02/05/2005 09:19 PMCanon has released a pair of color ink-jet photo printers that are
similar in technology but target somewhat different markets. The Pixma
iP8500 delivers fine-quality prints no larger than letter size. The
i9900 also prints well, and it can produce prints as large as 13 by 19
inches. Spending time with these two printers revealed more
similarities than differences in color quality, but variations in the
way they operate will determine which model better suits your needs.

The Price of Perfection
04/23/2004 09:33 AMJoel on
Software - Thursday, April 22, 2004: Joel makes some good points
about how we programmers have a tendency to try make things perfect
beyond any practical benefit. He's touched on this before as well,
with a story about the Netscape refactoring.
Perfectionism is a very dangerous quality in business and in life,
because by being perfectionist about one thing you are, by definition,
neglecting another.
The three days I spent insuring that all icons in CityDesk 3.0 are
displayed with perfect alpha-blended effects came at the price of
having a web site where the descender of the "g" is not a hyperlink.
And both are at the price of working on my next book, or writing
another article for Joel on Software, or making CityDesk publish
really big sites faster.

days?), but if you're in the market for one, Hardware Zoom has a
head-to-head comparison of Epson's Perfection 1260 and Canon's
