Sony Style PSP Launch Party
Sony Style PSP Launch Party
03/22/2005 04:46 PM
So
sure, Sony is throwing a launch party for the PSP at the Sony Style
store in Manhattan tomorrow night, but the real news is: you might
just get to meet Carson Daly. (I know!?!?) Actually, Danger Mouse is
supposed to be developing, packaging, and delivering sonic science at
the party, too, which is pretty cool (I've yet to buy into the DM
hype, but sometimes a live performance is all it takes).
Oh, and if you're among the first 500 to arrive, you'll be able to
purchase a PSP and a game at midnight. It's worth a shot (and I'll be
there, which is almost as good as Carson Daly, right?) Cool Hunting
has the flyer and details.
PSP Launch Party in NYC [CoolHunting]
Update: Brian writes,"You mentioned the launch party in
Manhattan, but not the one in San Francisco. It's at Sony Metreon, 101
4th Street in the Playstation store (not Sony Style) at 12:00 AM March
24, or tomorrow night. :) Price/opportunities for customers are the
same, I'd imagine."

So when
I said "Imagine my delight" I meant it.
Micro-content - micro-formats? Who's counting?
OPML - XOXO - whatever?
XFN FOAF - who cares?
Can't we all just learn to live together?
And anything Marty agrees with - I agree with - so let's just get
that straight.
Juts because I didn't get to meet Tantek's sister last night (I
think it was his sister) doesn't mean I don't love Tantek, or
Technorati or those long winded searches we're all becoming used
to.
:-)
Long live XFN.
Long live alternative XML based standards.

Let's just sure it's all compatible with us backwards thinking old

SciFi Channel launch party for
Battlestar Galactica miniseries,
Hollywood
12/03/2003 02:56 AM
At the DGA in Hollywood tonight, SciFi Channel premiered the
forthcoming "reimagined" miniseries Battlestar Galactica, which debuts
Monday night, next week.
Cast and crew were present, along with
SciFi Network brass. The event included a screening of episode one in
entirety. Forget what you've heard about complaints from fans of the
original series -- the new version is nothing short of breathtaking,
and lives up to its producers' promise to turn the science fiction TV
genre on its head. The two-part miniseries was co-produced by David
Eick and Ron Moore (who also cowrote the screenplay), and masterfully,
sensitively directed by Michael Rymer -- who is destined to become
"untouchable in five minutes," according to a pre-screening quip from
Eick. He's right. This stuff is the real thing.
More in Wired News shortly... but for now, here are a few
snapshots I took of the cast members
who were present this evening. From left to right: Edward James Olmos
(Commander Adama), Tricia Helfer (Cylon Number 6), Katee Sackhoff
(Starbuck), and Grace Park (Boomer).

04/27/2004 11:36 AMQuite an action-packed day yesterday. I did two keynotes, at two
separate events. After the second one, I went back to the first event,
a gathering of about 125 people who run libraries and museums, because
I'm trying to write some stuff about metadata and taxonomies. I
learned, for example, that one well-known art museum has had to create
over 300 new Dewey Decimal categories for illustrated manuscripts ...
and one for astrology. Afterwards, I went to a cocktail party put on
by the hosts of the second event. It was quite the power party. I got

Playboy game launch party at Playboy
Mansion, LA
05/12/2004 02:12 PM
Most of the time, the life of a wayward freelance geek journalist is
fraught with stress, challenges, unpaid invoices. Well, last night
wasn't one of those times. I went to the Playboy Mansion to interview
Hugh Hefner, and cover the launch of a new Playboy-themed electronic
game for Wired News and National Public Radio. In the game, you get to
be Hef, doing hefsterly things like -- oh, nailing 18 year old
hotties, and managing a booming porn publication empire.
I sat down with Mr. Hefner and his gorgeous companions, and asked him
if he felt the game designers had created an accurate virtual
depiction of the world in which he lives. "It's pretty good, other
than the fact that they gave me this giant Jay Leno chin," he said.
There was much butt cleavage in effect. Beautiful women with tromp
l'oeil lingerie painted on their perfectly engineered breasts served
little snacks off flawlessly polished silver platters (see image at
left). Oh, and in case you're wondering -- there is no WiFi inside the
grotto, although there is one very heavily used mattress. NPR and
Wired News stories coming up.

rearranged their songs for the stuff on hand and it's always
interesting to hear new takes on songs you've heard many times
before.

04/29/2004 12:39 AMI'm trying out the Party Shuffle feature in the new iTunes, and I'd
have to say it's a major improvement over the regular shuffle play.
Even when I am not throwing a party. (Okay, I'd admit it. I seldom
throw parties.) The user-interface is great.
What I like,
especially, is the ability to add tunes to my party shuffle from the
library.
Of course, I suspect there may be ever a slight decrease
in my productivity when I am party-ing with iTunes while working...
:-)
Disclaimer: I'm trying out iTunes on my Windows XP machine,
but I suspect there will not be any difference on iTunes for Mac.

Welcome Mail.app to the Party
04/09/2004 04:05 PMI have on several occasions dissed the Mac OS X email client
“Mail.app” fairly heavily in this space. I finally got myself
smoothly integrated with the Sun VPN, and I must report that the
latest release of Mail.app is now handling both my email lives (Sun
and Textuality) smoothly, efficiently, and with no fuss. The spam
filtering is failing a bit under the pressure, but is still pretty
darn good; and the filtering and styling and threading and so on is
really about all you could wish for. Another reason to think about
migrating to OS X.
