04/04/2005 08:30 AMHigh-end Xeon servers have entered the era of 64-bit computing. Last
week Intel unwrapped the highly anticipated 64-bit version of its Xeon
MP chip. The new chips, which come in five configurations, were
unveiled as part of a new line of components for multiprocessor
servers. The line also includes the new E8500 chip set.

Intel Updates Intel Xeon Multiprocessor
Platform
03/30/2005 05:19 PMIntel Corp., as expected, introduced a breed of new platform
components for multiprocessor servers. Targeted at the mid-tier
enterprise market segment, the platform consists of five new Xeon MP
processors for servers that use four or more processors, and a new
chipset.
Intel’s E8500 Uncovered
The main building block of Intel’s new server platform is E8500
chipset designed to support up to 4-way machines. The E8500 consists
of three or more chips: the north bridge (NB), the external memory
bridge (EMB) and the ICH5 I/O controller. The north bridge supports
two processor system busses, which allows two chips to share one
667MHz bus with, 10.6GB/s bandwidth, which is likely to give new
Intel-based servers an advantage over previous generations of Xeon
MP-powered systems that had to share one 400MHz processor system bus
with 6.40GB/s bandwidth between four chips.

Why most open source projects fail
Why most open source projects fail
06/22/2004 06:01 AMSome people have questioned my motives when I make the following
statement. Commercially supported software products normally out
development of open-source projects. There are several reasons for my
saying this and I will lay them out.
1. Dedicated Team of Paid Programmers lead by a lead developers.
2. Product vision for development.
3. Financially driven to make sure product succeeds.
The list goes on. Some of you are starch advocates of open-source
and I support open source but I have gotten burned more than once on
open source projects. Typically I have found that software projects
that start as open source have a higher success rate than those
products that start out as commercial and move later to open source.
I have found that Far too many Open Source projects have died
because while the wonderful buzzwords "free and open" get used, the
amount of talent actually working on many projects ends up being less
than zero. I think most people have huge expectations in expecting
Open Source to be a panacea for all software packages. Sadly usually
it isn't.

ience-fair-projects.com/Today your teacher announced
that your school is going to have a science fair and students are
responsible for exhibiting their projects. What do you feel?
Enthusiastic? Despondent? Dreadful? Fearful? Excited?" This statement
opens the Super Science Fair Projects site. Actually, whether student
or parent, science fair projects, while great ways to get students
actively involved in learning the scientific method and problem
solving, can be tough assignments. This site may help you with one of
the hardest parts: coming up with an idea. The site does a great job
of walking the visitor through the steps needed to plan and implement
a project, from Choosing a Topic, the Scientific Method, and writing
the Project Report. There are even tips on displaying your project,
rehearsing, winning over judges, and what to expect the day of the
fair. This is definitely a great tool to tap into when planning a
science fair project.[From The NSDL Scout Report for Math,
