iPod photo Review: 9 out of 10

iPod photo Review: 9 out of 10 03/29/2005 01:43 PM

CNET Editors give the new iPod photo a 9 out of 10 rating, writing, “Thanks to a much lower price and a new, photographer-friendly feature, the latest version of the iPod Photo should get more than its share of looks. Offering a full-color, 16-bit screen as well as 30GB and 60GB capacities, the iPod Photo displays photos and album art in an interface that’s undeniably Apple. From the ease with which one loads photos on to the device to the browsing of thumbnails and images on the iPod itself, the overall experience is positive and warm.” [Mar 28, 2005]

Review: Canon Ink-Jet Photo Printers 02/05/2005 09:19 PM
Canon has released a pair of color ink-jet photo printers that are similar in technology but target somewhat different markets. The Pixma iP8500 delivers fine-quality prints no larger than letter size. The i9900 also prints well, and it can produce prints as large as 13 by 19 inches. Spending time with these two printers revealed more similarities than differences in color quality, but variations in the way they operate will determine which model better suits your needs.

While other details are sparse, sources say that there will be size increases (in terms of storage). To check out the pictures, go to macteens.

HP to Sell Branded iPod Photo 04/12/2005 10:20 AM
Hewlett-Packard announced Tuesday that it has struck an agreement with Apple to sell HP-branded versions of the iPod Photo, despite assumptions that flat sales of the standard HP iPod would limit such an expansion. HP will offer both the 30GB and 60GB iPod Photo priced identically to Apple's own models.

Spymac + iStockphoto = Free iPod photo

Spymac + iStockphoto = Free iPod photo 03/19/2005 03:26 AM
Spymac has teamed up with the stock photography double agents over at iStockphoto to give all registered Spymac members the chance to win a brand spanking new 60 GB iPod photo! All you have to do to enter is create the godfather of all posters for SpyStock between March 18 and April 18, 2005. What is SpyStock? We have no idea, so that's why we need you to help us out. The only information we have on SpyStock is that it's centered around Spymac and iStockphoto. The rest is up to you my friends. To help you on your artistic journey, the kind folks at iStockphoto have supplied all participating members with eight top notch images from their massive stock photography database. To access these fine images, you'll need to visit the Spymac SpyStock gallery. Once you've checked the images out, you're free to use as many as you wish in your SpyStock masterpiece. To make things even more interesting, you must use at least two of the iStockphoto-provided images in your composition. Did I mention that the winner gets a shiny new 60 GB iPod photo from the stock photography ninjas at iStockphoto? To recap then, the official rules are as follows: 1. The contest begins on March 18, 2005 and closes on April 18, 2005 2. The theme of the poster must be that of SpyStock 3. Aspects of both Spymac and iStockphoto must be included in the poster 4. A minimum of two images from those provided by iStockphoto for the SpyStock contest must be used in the composition of the poster 5. All entries must be upload to the official SpyStock Entries gallery 6. Multiple entries are allowed 7. You must be a registered member of Spymac to participate 8. The contest winner will receive a 60 GB Apple iPod photo compliments of iStockphoto 9. All contest judging will be completed by the staff members of iStockphoto So, if to you, SpyStock is an event where the members of Spymac unite to sing folk songs at a rodeo with guitars made of Lego while snapping photographs on invisible stilts, doctor up a poster conveying that message. Remember, aside from the outlined aspects that must be included, SpyStock is whatever you want it to be. So get out your crayons, thinking caps, G5s, rocket launchers, whatever works best for you, and send us your smoking hot entries (luke-warm entries will also be considered). Good luck to all who enter! Entries can be uploaded here.

jvc_everio.jpg imageIt looks like the end-of-year round-ups are upon us—it is the end of year, I guess—and Laptop Magazine has their "Gear of the Year" up, with some no brainers I think we'll be seeing a lot of this week, including the Motorola V3 Razr and the JVC Everio camcorder (something I've seen a lot of people lusting over, but not actually purchasing). They're also running a 'Trade your demographic information for a chance to win a prize' contest, where they're giving away an iPod Photo. You're just a number anyway—might as well get some loot.

iPod mini Review: 8.7 out of 10 03/22/2005 03:43 PM
Reviewing the second generation iPod mini, CNET editors gave it an 8.7 out of 10 rating, stating “The iPod brand has become synonymous with excellent portable audio players, and the second-generation Apple iPod mini carries on the tradition with its fashionable, intelligent design. Apple has made precious few (but all necessary) updates to its stylish microdrive player, which is a good thing since it was already a winner.” [Mar 21, 2005]

Belkin TuneDok iPod Car Holder Review

Belkin TuneDok iPod Car Holder Review 06/11/2004 08:17 AM

dockconns.jpg imageFar be it from me to begrudge anyone the opportunity to tear apart a ridiculous consumer product, but no matter what the guys at Whining Dog say, I think this Belkin TuneDok iPod holder is pretty clever. It's basically just a simple travel holder for your iPod, doesn't do anything terribly fancy, or electronic, even, but it does have the good graces to slip comfortably into any available cupholder you have in your car, putting your iPod at a more comfortable eye-level (hopefully) and saving it from unsightly scratches.

You might say the $40 price tag sort isn't in line with its overall usefulness, and you'd be right, but when these things invariably drop to $9.98 at your local Best Buy, it's not going to look like such a rip off.

Macworld review: iPod Voice Recorders

Macworld review: iPod Voice Recorders 08/27/2004 02:02 PM
Until recently, iPods could receive information only from a computer -- contacts, calendars, and MP3 files all had to be imported. Now the iPod can be used as a recording device, too, for directly storing and playing back audio. You're not going to want to record your band's demo on your iPod, but if you want to capture close-range interviews or voice memos, the Belkin Voice Recorder for iPod and the Griffin Technology iTalk iPod Voice Recorder can get the job done. In the end, though, the Griffin is our pick, thanks to its better sound quality.
