Cybersquatter takes Apple to High Court
03/29/2005 01:47 PMBenjamin Cohen, former owner of the iTunes.co.uk domain name, will be
taking Apple to the High Court to try and overturn a ruling from a
domain registry that stated the domain name should be transferred to
Apple.
Apple issued proceedings against Cohen in December through the UK
internet registry Nominet, claiming ownership of the domain should be
transferred to Apple because it holds the iTunes trademark. The
company won a legal battle against Cohen earlier in March as Nominet
claimed that he had made an "abusive registration" and ruled that the
domain name should be transferred to Apple.
Cohen will be applying to the High Court on Tuesday or Wednesday for a
judicial review.
"We feel that the procedure that Nominet utilise to settle disputes is
unfair and biased towards big business at the expense of legitimate
small British companies," Cohen told The Guardian. "It's a matter of
principle now. I paid for it and if Apple had contacted me nicely
without lawyers we would have sold it to them."

Kerry takes his boat into battle
Kerry takes his boat into battle
09/24/2004 06:29 PMJohn Kerry caught a cold earlier this week, but his campaign has also
caught some fire. On Wednesday, the Dems wasted no time in ripping the
Bush camp for a
"juvenile" new TV ad that took a cheap shot at Kerry's
windsurfing hobby while ignoring the spiraling chaos in Iraq. And the
bolder, more nimble Kerry campaign is in assault mode again today with
another quick counterpunch intended to show that President Bush’s
rhetoric on Iraq is as vaporous as a desert mirage. Its
new TV spot blasts Bush for
the tone and message of his Thursday press conference alongside
interim Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi, during which Bush played off
of some recent
"right
track/wrong track" polling that showed better popular sentiment in
war-torn Iraq than in the U.S.

P2P Wins Court Battle in France
P2P Wins Court Battle in France
03/14/2005 04:34 PMI take back some of things I had thought about our friends across the
Atlantic. A French Appeal Court ruled that a countryman who downloaded
500 movies via P2P was within his rights because he used them for
private viewing, not distributing or selling them to the public. He
also paid tax on the blank media he recorded it on. No harm, no foul
said the courts. Now that is a ruling that makes sense, common sense.
Viva Le France! If you can read French, you can find the details
on this website.
