BBEdit 8.1 Adds Source Control Support -- Bare Bones Software has released BBEdit 8.1, adding support for the Subversion source control management application to the powerful text editor. The update also enhances the Text Factory feature by adding new menus and palettes, and incorporates numerous other fixes (including the "triumphant return" of Command-Option-double-click for Find Selection). BBEdit 8.1 is a free update for registered users of BBEdit 8, and is an 11.8 MB download; it requires Mac OS X 10.3.5 or later. [JLC]

Netopia Inc. released eCare 4.0 on Monday. The upgrade to the company's interactive online support solution adds support for Apple's Safari Web browser, the ability to capture a video recording of remote control sessions and log complete transcripts for any support session, and more. eCare requires only a Web browser on the client side, although Mac users must install a plug-in to use the Desktop Assist, Desktop Observer, Invite Assist and Invite Observe functions. Netopia offers both subscription-based hosted and standalone server pricing models, noting that eCare 4.0 will run on any server with Apache Web Server and Resin Java servlet engine support. You Software has released You Control 1.3, an update to its menu utilities collection that adds four new modules -- CPU Monitor, Disk Monitor, Memory Monitor and Network Monitor -- and updates the iTunes module with the ability to view and modify song ratings, as well as choose new button designs for the controls. The CPU Monitor graphically displays how much processing power is consumed by each application, including the system software, while the Disk Monitor shows available space in all mounted hard drives as well as each drive's read/write activity.

The new release adds support for more devices, including recently released models from Sony Ericsson and Motorola. Apple advises that iCal 1.5.2 (the latest version as of this posting) or later is required for iSync 1.5. Bluetooth 1.5 is also required if you plan to synchronize data with a Bluetooth-equipped mobile phone.

THHdesign has released iWapper 2.0, a new version of their Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) server for Mac OS X v10.3. iWapper generates Web sites suitable for WAP display, increasingly used on cell phones and other handheld devices. The new release of iWapper adds support for Really Simple Syndication (RSS) news feeds and dynamic text file updates. It also generates an automatic WAP index page. Many other new features have been added as well. iWapper 2.0 is free to use if you'll display a banner on your page; otherwise it costs US$15 to register.
