09/27/2004 03:22 AMI watch my site statistics very closely and I realize that a lot of
you are not paying attention. 72% of you still use Internet Explorer
to visit the site and that makes me frown. I suppose old habits die
hard.
I can tell you this for every person I have invited to switch to
Firefox personally 9 out 10 have thanked me later. Try it for a week
cold turkey. Check out the plug-ins they have available. If tabbed
browsing is not enough to convince you I have no idea what will. [ZDNet]

Thanks to Microsoft, I finally made the switch to Firefox on my
Powerbook. I'm totally addicted to clicking links with the wheel-mouse
button to open them in new tabs. Firefox does that by default on my
platforms (Solaris x86, Linux, and Windows XP), but for some odd
reason, on Mac you have to map the wheel button to be a "Control
Click" rather than just a click. I couldn't do that until I downloaded
the appropriate Microsoft
Intellipoint mouse
drivers.

Microsoft Blogger : How can I trust
Firefox?
12/22/2004 01:23 AMMicrosoft employee Peter Torr has started a flame war in his own blog
today. Torr claims that the distribution and code signing of Firefox
isn't up to scratch. Torr provides screenshots of the latest XPSP2
protection IE but fails to mention the poor protection in IE 6 SP1
which many more users are still using. Nevertheless if you enjoy
battling it out about Firefox vs IE then this is a read for you.
Here's a snip:
"But the thing that makes me really not trust the browser is that
it doesn't matter how secure the original code is if the typical usage
pattern of the browser requires users to perform insecure actions.
· Installing Firefox requires downloading an unsigned binary
from a random web server
· Installing unsigned extensions is the default action in the
Extensions dialog
· There is no way to check the signature on downloaded program
files
· There is no obvious way to turn off plug-ins once they are
installed
· There is an easy way to bypass the "This might be a
virus" dialog"

Microsoft blocking pages to Firefox
users?
06/22/2005 02:12 AMI have run into a few pages over at Microsoft that have not loaded
from time to time in Firefox, and really did not think anything about
it. Apparently it is getting the dandruff up of some of the Firefox
development team. I am not all that surprised, but I would be curious
to have a technical explanation on why they will not load or are they
simply and truly being blocked? If someone can answer that question I
think that would explain a lot on why it is happening. [weblogs

Yes, But When Can I Switch Off From
Work?
Yes, But When Can I Switch Off From
Work?
04/14/2004 10:37 PMWelcome to the modern "always on, always connected" work world. It's
gotten to the point where Microsoft discovered, after handing out
smart phones, tablet PCs and broadband connections to employees that
they needed to
give their employees special instructions on how to turn
off work. This isn't a new problem, and it's certainly been
discussed before. While some people can handle the work/life balance
without a problem - it's not so easy for everyone else. Even for
those who can switch off, it's made more difficult by their colleagues
who can't - and who contact them at odd hours with work requests.
This is going to become a bigger issue for modern companies to deal
with. There are, obviously, some advantages, but people need to learn
their limits.
