I've ordered my PowerBook

I've ordered my PowerBook 12/20/2003 07:22 PM

Thanks to everyone who provided advice on buying a Mac - it provide incredibly helpful in making my selection. I placed my order this afternoon for a 15" 1 GHz PowerBook with a SuperDrive, backlit keyboard and 60 GB of Hard Disk space. I went with the minimum possible memory (256 MB) and plan to buy an extra 512 MB from Crucial (for less than half the price Apple charge) in a few weeks time.

I saved a serious chunk of money thanks to the Student Developer program (tip off from Leonard Lin), which for a $99 membership fee and proof of student status gives you up to 20% off your first hardware purchase from the Apple store. In total, I saved nearly a thousand pounds ($1500+) on the cost of the same machine in the UK. Truth be told, it was the amount I would save by buying here that inspired me to look at PowerBooks rather than iBooks in the first place.

Delivery in 2-3 business days. I can hardly wait.

New PowerBook Ordered

New PowerBook Ordered 04/29/2004 08:35 PM
I always said that when I finished the book that I'd get myself a new notebook. Early on, I expected that'd mean a ThinkPad T40 or something similar but that all changed a little while ago. Thanks to an ADC hardware discount, I've finally ordered the new hardware. The order I placed via Apple Store is: PowerBook 1.5GHz (15.2 inch) 128MB Graphics Memory 80GB Ultra ATA Drive (4200 rpm) SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW) Backlit Keyboard 512MB DDR333 SDRAMM (1 DIMM) AirPort Extreme...

SCO Ordered To Put Up Or Shut Up

SCO Ordered To Put Up Or Shut Up 12/05/2003 06:41 PM
I've been avoiding posting the nearly daily back and forth stories about the SCO/Linux battle because it's almost too crazy to believe. However, it sounds like the battle of dueling open letters and press releases may finally be coming to an end as a judge has told SCO to show the evidence against IBM already. This is bad news for SCO, because they've been acting as if it was all IBM's fault that no evidence had been shown - and the judge clearly does not buy that argument. Still, it could be a very long time before this case is settled, so we should be seeing plenty more craziness for the next few years.
