Diller To Show IAC Is No Travel Company
By Creating IAC's Travel Company
12/22/2004 01:16 AMBarry Diller has done a good job buying up various online "middleman"
companies in a variety of spaces from travel to social networking to
dating. However, he says too many people view InterActiveCorp as a
travel company and that's making it more difficult to acquire
non-travel companies. So, in order to
prove that he's not
running a travel company...
he's
going to show them what it means to really run a travel
company. That is, he's going to spin off all of IAC's travel
properties, including Expedia, Hotwire, TravelNow and Hotels.com, into
one company (which he'll still run), and keep all the other properties
as IAC. While it may be a good idea to realize the value of those
other properties, from the beginning Diller kept talking about the
synergies of having all of these properties under the same umbrella.
Apparently, those synergies only go so far when the stock price isn't
as high as he had hoped.

Trace your genetic ancestry back to
Africa for $100 with National Geographic
04/13/2005 05:46 PMMark Frauenfelder:
Michael Slavitch says: "Want to know where your ancestors really came
from? $100 and a cheek swab will tell you.
"National Geographic has developed a five-year genographic study
where participants can join in and track their genetic lineage to a
common African ancestor. The $100 test will tell you the route that
your ancestors took and when, and both the DNA and genographic results
will be made available to individual participants on the net. Very
very cool."
When your results are ready Project Director Dr. Spencer Wells will
introduce you to your earliest human relatives—the members of
your specific haplogroup. You'll receive a personalized genetic
analysis, including an online overview of your deep ancestral history.
The analysis reveals where and when your haplogroup originated and how
they lived. You'll also receive a dynamic map, specific to your
lineage, on which to trace your relatives' journeys across the planet.

There have been some sever
e allegations about foul play inside of ICANN with regards to the
.travel sTLD allocation. Staff, counsel and the board have reviewed
these allegations and I am convinced that these allegations are
unfounded and have just voted in favor of .travel.
I have talked to several independent participants who are also
puzzled by these allegations but I have asked them to dig around for
more facts. I will report back if I find anything, but until there is
some third party corroboration of these allegation, I would hope
people would stop spreading this rumor as if it were fact. I
understand that people don't like to give ICANN the benefit of the
doubt, but these are quite severe allegations from a single source. Please be responsible.
