Pressure Drop on Monday announced DecoDock, a new dock for the iPod shuffle created in Art Deco style. Users place the iPod shuffle upright into the center of the DecoDock. The DecoDock frames the iPod shuffle with lighted columns on either side, atop an arc-shaped base. The base has a spot to store your iPod shuffle's cap so it doesn't get lost. Pressure Drop plans to ship the DecoDock in April for US$28.99. It's available for pre-order now for $24.99.

More and more people seem to misunderstand the recent products from Apple. It's like people see them and go, "I wouldn't buy that, so why did they make that? Apple is [dying|dead|bankrupt|Republican]! The horror!"

Umm, so, yeah. There's approximately 5,999,999,999 other people in this world and I'm guessing, it's just a wild guess, that some of them might have different opinions.

shuffle_clip.jpg imageGood morning, job seekers. Who here thinks the iPod shuffle's end cap is just begging to be lost? Why not invest in something a bit more practical, like this aluminum end cap with clip from Tunewear. It may only be a minute difference, but having your shuffle clipped to your jacket or bag sounds a lot better than just letting it dangle on a lanyard or sit in your pocket. And while Tunewear has only announced the clip in Japan, they do sell their products here, so I expect we'll see it soon enough. Since it's aluminum, you can pretend your little flash player is a PowerPod shuffle, too.

Toto's Techno Toilet Tomorrow

Toto's Techno Toilet Tomorrow 05/31/2004 09:49 AM

washlet_c100.jpg imageApparently toilet technologists Toto have felt the rains down in Africa one too many times, developing a new backdoor spritzer known as the 'Washlet' that tries to give a modern-day spin to the bidet. While Science Toilets are nothing new -- the Japanese have led this field for decades, for better or worse (see: Tubgirl) -- Toto is pushing the Washlet with all they've got, with videos, infomercials, and even a multi-story Times Square ad. Will Americans finally warm up to a warm water pulse on their sour apples? I could assume, but opinions are like assholes: they often feel cleanest when hit with a jet of heated steam.

Meanwhile, back in Japan, Toto has added a 'hydroelectric' convertor that uses the wasted flush energy to power the infrared sensor, keeping the internal battery charged for up to 10 years. It even tries to guess what number you've worked out and adjusts the amount of water as appropriate. (Thanks, Robert!)

Dean's MoveOn-ish Movement 12/02/2003 09:57 AM
The Boston Globe today has an article (the link will break tomorrow) about the Dean campaign's plan to ask its supporters MoveOn-ishly to raise money to support Democratic Congresspeople running in tightly contested elections. There are three obvious motivations for this: To take back Congress, to do favors for some Congresspeople who can return the favor, and to rebuild the Democratic base. That last one is the kicker. This campaign from the beginning has felt more like a movement than like a campaign (to paraphrase Natasha C). Given the zealotry of the supporters, it's even more surprising that the...

Delay in LWAPP Movement

Delay in LWAPP Movement 03/06/2004 01:49 AM
It appears that there will be a delay in creating a standard for thin APs to communicate with switches: An effort that became known as lightweight access point protocol was started mainly by WLAN switch vendors who hoped to come up with a standard communication method for thin APs. Such a standard would eliminate the requirement for enterprises to only buy APs from the same vendor they buy their WLAN switches from. But the LWAPP standard proposal has expired. In its place is a new effort known as CAPWAP, or the control and provisioning of wireless access points. Eventually, the idea is that a standard like the one the LWAPP group had hoped to create will be worked on within CAPWAP. In the meantime, CAPWAP's goal is to work on defining the architecture of WLANs. I'm surprised that LWAPP ran out of steam and I think it's unfortunate for the WLAN switch makers. One of the biggest complaints that I've heard of from enterprises that want to deploy WLAN switches is that they have to buy access points from just one specific vendor....

This is not a restriction on fair use, it is a return to a standard of fair use that existed before digital media came into being. ... David Jones republishes articles from Wales' National Assembly website on his own Assembly Online site because the official designers "clearly don't know what they're doing."

"They're singularly clueless; the HTML and CSS are invalid," he said. "I was exasperated, so I thought I'd do it myself to show them how it might be done.
