With so much attention paid in recent weeks to the Mac conversion of Doom 3's performance, it's timely that Apple has posted "Optimizing OpenGL Data Throughput on Mac OS X," a new feature on the Apple Developer Connection Web site. The information isn't specific to game developers -- it's practical information suitable to any Mac OS X developer working on projects that can benefit from faster OpenGL performance.

Oracle last week made available the first "early adopters" release of its Oracle Database 10g software to Mac developers. Oracle followed up on Wednesday with more Mac OS X development news: Developers will also be able to create J2EE applications and Web services will be offered Oracle JDeveloper 10g's J2EE framework and visual development environment. Oracle Database 10g Early Adopters Release 2 is currently available for free download to all registered Oracle Technology Network members, while the production version should be ready for evaluation in the second half of 2004, along with free downloads of JDeveloper 10g.

Independent game publisher GarageGames Inc. on Tuesday announced that it has released its network gaming code as a standalone cross-platform library, dubbed Torque Network Library (TNL). Like GarageGames' Torque Game Engine, TNL is covered under GarageGames' "indie" license and a full commercial license. It's also being distributed under a GPL Open Source license.
