12/29/2003 11:49 PM Movie theaters going digital: Celluloid is becoming a
thing of the past in Hollywood.
After years of Hollywood hype, 2004 could truly be a
watershed year for digital cinema. A recent surge in investment by
theater chains and technology companies means the number of digital
projectors in cinemas will more than double to over 400 in the next 12
months, Screen Digest reports.
I still don't think I've seen a digital film yet.

10/29/2003 11:27 AMiTunes for Windows and the iTunes Music Store are a hit with students
at Stanford University. Lawsuits from the RIAA against file-swappers
have become a concern for some students, and the ability to legally
share iTunes playlists over the university's fast network has been a
big contributor to the user base of the software. “Once you get the
program, you can access the MP3 music library of anyone on the local

Continue Transformation of Digital Media
09/02/2004 12:49 AMEvery once in a while, the dance between trends and technology
achieves an almost perfect state of synchronicity that changes the way
we experience the world. This may be one of those times. Among the
trends: five years ago, less than 13 percent of Internet users had a
digital-music file on their computer. Now, 70 percent of computer
users listen to music on their PCs. And that is just the tip of the
iceberg. Last year, more than 100 million digital photos were taken.
More and more people are using PCs to view videos. By the end of this
year, 9.5 million TV tuner cards will have shipped.

Olympics underway
Olympics underway
08/11/2004 01:25 PMJust watched the US Women's team defeat
Greece 3-0. Five members of the 1991 world cup team are still
playing for the US which is pretty impressive -- there aren't a lot of
examples in international sports of people remaining competitive for
over 13 years.
Tomorrow, Iraq rejoins the Olympics for the first time since 1988
to play soccer against Portugal, which is great to see. On the
downside, I'm hearing about a lot of top American athletes ducking out
of this year's games (in tennis, basketball, and cycling especially)
citing injuries and personal reasons. It's a shame we won't seem them
but I'm wondering if part of it is due to concerns about attacks or
violence. I certainly hope the games go smoothly, it seemed a few
months ago the only news coming out of Athens was bad news, but
today's soccer match seemed to go just fine.
