Independent Artist Alex Bach (www.alexbach.com) OneEggTicket-Kaleidoscope

Note from Tim "Thanks for the plug and for allowing the world to further hear the beautiful voice of Alex Bach! Just as a quick note, that's One Egg Ticket's music and arrangement of the song (One Egg Ticket plays the guitars - less the acoustic - and the drums), but the song is all Alex! Just in case anyone has heard this song from Alex's "Miles To Go" album; it's a very different version than what appears there."

Obviously the events in Asia over the past several of days have been tragic. We are on edge here as we have a close relative that was on vacation in Thailand that has yet to check in. Added to that we have a new family member tonight plus some other significant events it has been a roller coaster day.

Check out the Podcast on the Christmas Money winner? Due to all of the events that have taken place today the Podcast is not as well put together as we would have wanted.

GEEK NEWS CENTRAL PODCAST TO BE SPONSORED BY Go Daddy

The Best Tech Show for the Common Man available via Podcast

Honolulu, Hawaii. (June 2, 2005) Podcast Connect, Inc., parent company of GeekNewsCentral.com, one of the top technical podcast worldwide, announced today a major long-term sponsorship deal with GoDaddy.com. The Geek News Central Podcast is produced and released twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday at 6 a.m. (EST).

"This is one of the first long-term sponsorship deals to hit the Podcasting Channel," says Todd Cochrane, host of the Geek News Central Podcast, and author of the first book on podcasting, "Podcasting: The Do It Yourself Guide" (www.amazon.com/podcasting) .

Geek News Central is uniquely positioned to deliver great incentives for Go Daddy products and services in the coming months. Readers of the Geek News Central website and listeners of the Geek News Central podcast will be able to take advantage of special pricing on Go Daddy products.

Cochrane says this is the perfect marketing fit. "I have used Go Daddy products for a long time, and their product line is one I endorse and stand behind."

The Geek News Central website is currently hosted on a Go Daddy Virtual Dedicated Server. Additionally, Cochrane has over 30 domains registered through the Go Daddy domain registration service.

The Geek News Central website is where Cochrane and his crew of associate editors talk about technology, fair use, DRM, and other significant world events. Cochrane's podcast is a reflection of the website. His shows and website cover important issues including strong family values (his show is child safe and educational). Not only does Todd talk tech and bring the topics down to a level that the average person can understand, but he also has his thumb on the heartbeat of the podcasting community.

Detailed descriptions of prior shows can be found at www.geeknewscentral.com /podcasts. The show is always free and lots of fun.

Interesting Geek News Central Net
statistics
07/14/2004 06:50 PM

Every once in a while you are surprised when you dig down into the site statistics. 44% of you use Mozilla or Firefox, 51% of you use IE. 50% of the readers originate in the US while 20% of you check in from Europe and 30% from all other places around the Globe. Wednesday seems to be our peak day by a few percentage points. Google remains king as they account for 72% of those that find us by search engine. Oh the most important statistic, since we incorporated full text rss feeds our RSS readership has exploded and that readership is up 64%

With my absence due to my injury in June we did not see any growth in June. From January 1st thru today we have averaged 15.9% monthly growth rate, June hurt the average but I am not complaining. I want to thank all of you for continued readership of the site.

We are happy to announce the realization of a goal of mine to run our own server side seeder for our Podcast feeds. This puts us in control of the feed and we no longer have to utilize third party services.

This is being accomplished with the pre-release of the newest BlogTorrent application. With the seeding portion being in beta I am sure it isn't a 100% but in the first 12 hours of running it we have been pretty happy.

Those of you getting podcast from us that have subscribed to the .torrent feed need to update your podcatcher clients to pull from this URL http://www.geekn ewscentral.com/torrent/rss.php

Chris Pirillo ask why Microsoft didnt

08/09/2004 06:41 PM

I have to agree with Chris, Microsoft could have sped the deployment of XP SP2 by seeding a Torrent the file would have spread like wildfire. But I guess then they probably would have been accused of promoting one of the best file distribution tools on the net and would have legitimized a tool that organizations like the MPAA and RIAA hate. Thanks to Chris Pirillo 04/14/2005 10:21 AM

A picture named abe.gifAfter running the bit< /a> about Mr Picky yesterday, I got several emails saying that there are others who say the same thing -- "If Dave's there, I won't be." So it seems likely that Chris Pirillo was under the same kind of pressure when he invited me to keynote Gnomedex, and that makes me all the more appreciative of his support. Thanks Chris!

And to everyone else, listen to what I do at Gnomedex, I'm sure it'll be recorded. People slime me and it's not fair. I work hard at conferences to make sure everyone gets good value. I work for the "audience," a term that needs updating in the age of the blog. There are always a few people who feel otherwise. As they say in France, c'est la vie!

Chris Pirillo On Witnessing IE7

Chris Pirillo On Witnessing IE7 04/06/2005 03:29 PM
IE7 is going to happen - and I've officially seen it on Dean's screen. I can't tell you what's happening and where it's happening, but I can certainly share with you my feelings (which aren't under NDA). In a word: hopeful. They're moving forward, and the right folks are truly listening. I wasn't fully able to explore the pre-beta program, but I could see potential painted in the pixels. I, too, had my doubts: "Is Microsoft going to abandon browser development again?" After speaking with a couple of team members, I would speculate not. They'll likely walk with IE7, jog with IE8, and run with IE9. Beyond that? Anybody's guess. But I can tell you this: Dean Hachamovitch is my kind of geek. Would I recommend upgrading to IE7? Sight unseen, I'd probably still say yes.

Blogger Chris Allbritton heads back to
Iraq
12/31/2003 02:42 AM
BoingBoing reader Clive says:
Chris Allbritton was the first truly blog-created journalist -- a former Associated Press guy who raised $13,000 in donations from the audience of his blog Back To Iraq, to pay for a reporting trip to Iraq during the war. With no editors to please, he was able to cover whatever stories he and his audience wanted. Now his readers have asked him to do another trip -- so he's started another fundraising drive. If you want to support truly independent war reporting, drop by his site and throw some change in his Paypal jar.

Blogger co-founder quits tech, becomes
chef
09/14/2004 02:49 PM
Cory Doctorow: Meg Hourihan, the co-founder of Pyra, the company that invented Blogger, has retired from technology to become a chef:
So last night I ended my sabbatical and began my new career doing something I've always felt passionate about: cooking. I'm working in the kitchen of a restaurant called Fifty-Six Union (mentioned at the bottom of thisFeasting on Nantucket article) here on Nantucket. Yesterday at 3 PM I put on my black chef's clogs, my black pants and white t-shirt, pulled my Red Sox cap over my hair and got to work peeling and deveining shrimp. Seven hours later, sweatily scrubbing the kitchen floors, I was still smiling.

I've learned a lot this summer during my sabbatical but it all can be summarized in three words: follow your heart.
