Micro-Content Business

What interests me about micro-content business is that the dynamics
of micro-content
business differs drastically between free contents versus paid
contents. Free
contents are consumables. Paid contents are properties.
Thinking of paid content as property is an emotional
perspective. I paid for
it so I must own it even though it cost me only a quarter and
its existance is
tenuous. Thus I think the best business models for paid
content business must leverage
this human weakness.

Where's My Micro Fuel Cell?
Where's My Micro Fuel Cell?
05/27/2004 09:34 AMFuel Cell companies have been promising commercially available micro
fuel cells for years. Robot builders have been
anxiously awaiting them as an alternative to short-lived, expensive
batteries. So where are they? According to a new smalltimes
article, they've been plagued with performance and cost problems.
Two companies claim they're getting close and, (suprise) are promising
commercially available micro fuel cells shortly. Medis Technologies,
Ltd
claims they'll ship a micro fuel cell
aimed at cell phones and digital cameras by the end of this year. The
downside to the Medis cell is its use of a proprietary glycerol fuel
instead of hydrogen or methanol. MTI Micro claims
they'll ship a more conventional methanol fuel cell this year but for
the industrial RFID reader market rather than consumer devices. Lack
of
pricing information has some analysts concerned cost may
still be an issue and that the companies are rushing a product to
market
just
to prove they can do so before their funding runs out.

Resumes are Micro-content
Resumes are Micro-content
07/01/2004 04:59 PMRight on to my brother Lucas
Gonze - who not only groks it (in
regards to Resumes)- but is also helping to establish playlists as a clear, open, sharable new
kind of micro-content!
Lucas writes....
I know of three kinds of syndicateable microcontent right now:
reviews, weblog entries, and playlists. It just struck me that resumes
are microcontent.
We could easily have standard XML format for resumes. Given that,
resume editors could compete to be the best at handling the standard,
XSLT and CSS could be developed independently of any one resume, and
job sites could import the data rather than force the user to type it
into a custom format.
Update from George Hotelling:
The HR
XML project already has a schema for
resumes.

03/29/2005 04:22 AM
KDDI and Hitachi Systems and Services have teamed
up to offer a new software/service called "micro-VNC" for KDDI's au
phones. VNC is synonymous with remote desktop control for many, and
micro-VNC brings the concept to mobile phones in a way I haven't seen
before. Compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux, micro-VNC is currently
compatible with more modern au mobile phones. I can't really say what
sort of framerates you'll be getting from Half-Life 2 trying to play
it on your phone, but one thing is certain — Hitachi
"apologize[s] for your inconvenience from the bottom of [their] heart"
that "an English page is unavailable." I'm touched, Hitachi.

We're going to have a second micro-content
dinner in Amsterdam this Tueday, Sept. 7th - at the Dim Sum Palace - right off the Leidseplein - Leidsestratt 95 - at 7:30 PM.
Lots of folks who couldn't make it last time will be there and some
new folks I've met while here.
With all the happenings going - with all these new standards and
efforts starting up - I was hoping that this roadshow would get some
Europeans involved as well.
Alf Eaton is ready to belly

So we'll feast on Dim Sum, learn about OpenMedia, FOAF and staying pipeline agnostic
- and meet each other! And you get to meet Mimi, Lucy and Lisa -
too.

The Micro-AmigaOne and Amiga OS4
Developer Prerelease (Update 1)
02/01/2005 08:53 PMWhen originally released in 1985, the Amiga was miles ahead of both
the Mac and PC in terms of sound and graphics. Unfortunately,
mismanagement by Commodore led to a rather untimely demise. After
years of false starts, the platform is poised for a new beginning, as
a new motherboard with PowerPC support and a new version of the
venerable Amiga OS are in the offing.
Jeremy Reimer picked up a Micro-AmigaOne motherboard and a copy of
the OS 4 Developer Prerelease and spent some quality time seeing how
the Amiga OS has evolved and what it has to offer today. Is Amiga
doomed to be a historical curiosity, or can it become a viable, modern
operating system? Read on... the answer may surprise you.

Mac mini Shrinks to micro, nano, and
pico
04/01/2005 03:21 AMGlenn Fleishman (~840 words)
Apple's huge success with the Mac
mini's small form factor and low price has caused the company to look
more closely at making computers in a variety of small sizes. That
push was reflected in a long segment of today's press conference, with
Steve Jobs laying out the reception the Mac mini has received with
users and the press. He then jumped into the product announcements,
and oh, what announcements! Just as the iPod broke from the pack of
MP3 players and took over that market, these diminutive new Macs - the
micro, nano, and pico - promise to change expectations of what
computers are and how we use them. Steve Jobs said that Apple
anticipates shipping all three models in the second half of 2005, in
time for the holiday shopping season.
