C'mon People Now, Shine on Your Hipster 10/31/2003 05:15 PM
C'mon People Now, Shine on Your Hipster • "A new and disturbing trend has sprung up as of late in our great city (NYC): beating up hipsters for sport. Sucker punching Williamsburg trendsters is the new Whack-A-Mole. It's cow-tipping for urbanites. It's blowing up mailboxes, but with less angst and more anger." (more inside)

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (2d). Though the origina l 3d version on the Nintendo 64 is still one the best of the series, Daniel Barris's recreation of the game is graphically allowing Ocarina of Time to take its rightful place beside the reigning champion, A Link to the Past (flash required). The lack of a 3d Epona aside, it just feels right.

iPod Used By Jock and Hipster Alike? 04/16/2004 07:30 AM
JOEL JOHNSON -- If it wasn't clear before, there's a dripping, wet underline on it now: owning an iPod doesn't make you cool. RetroPod: Hipster Hard Case for iPod

RetroPod: Hipster Hard Case for iPod 07/01/2004 12:31 PM

retropod_wink.jpg image

The god damned hipsters have struck again -- and this time, it's portable. The Retropod is a, uhm, retrofitting of older Sony "Sports Walkmans" that is probably the very least functional case for iPods I've ever seen. All you get is a headphone out, and you have to open up the case to get to the controls. Even the inline remote won't work, because of the way the headphone extender works. But hey, their models are cute and that goes a long way, even if I can smell the reek of Pabst right through the JPEG.

Now if the only option they offered were the $100 version, I'd have to throw them back out on the curb where they mate and sleep, but since they also have a $20 DIY version (Walkman not included), we'll let it slide for now.

Twin Folders v3.0

Twin Folders v3.0 07/27/2004 09:52 PM
Twin Folders is a file and directory synchronization utility. If you are working on two different computers - for example a desktop and notebook, then you need to keep your work files up-to-date at both of them. Perhaps you do not want to even remember what computer you used last and next time you want to work on either of them. Twin Folders will help. Run synchronization before or after you use any of your computers and eliminate any concerns. [Shareware $24.95 15 Days 868 KB]

Rael Dornfest says he's going to stop filing his email messages into different folders. Instead, he's going to put all the messages he wants to keep into a single folder and use his email programs search and sort functions to retrieve messages he wants to re-read. Mount Remote Folders in Windows

Mount Remote Folders in Windows 02/10/2004 02:49 AM

How to Create and Manipulate NTFS Junction Points: This is awfully handy. It allows you to map a drive, but map it to a local folder, instead of using a drive letter. So as you traverse your directory tree, you could drop into a remote folder that appears it be local. Very Linux-ish.

You can surpass the 26 drive letter limitation by using NTFS junction points. By using junction points, you can graft a target folder onto another NTFS folder or "mount" a volume onto an NTFS junction point. Junction points are transparent to programs.
