ATP Electronics Inc., a leading manufacturer of digital flash media products, today announced that it is in mass production of high capacity dual voltage RS-MMC (DV RS-MMC). The dual voltage (DV) feature allows for compatibility with devices running on the conventional 3.0V as well as with the dual voltage 3.0/1.8V devices. The low voltage feature translates to much lower power consumption, meaning longer battery life for both today and tomorrow’s mobile digital devices. Card capacities of 128MB and 256MB are available immediately, with 512MB available in March. [PRWEB Feb 20, 2005]

T-Mobile DK Gets Nokia 6630

T-Mobile DK Gets Nokia 6630 09/16/2004 10:47 PM

tmobile_6630.jpg imageLooks like T-Mobile Germany is getting the Nokia 6630 (or else they made a bad choice in stock photography in this marketing page). I wonder if that means T-Mobile will carry it in the US? My guess would be no, since the whole point of the 6630 is that it works on high-speed 3G networks - something T-Mobile USA doesn't really have. (Thanks, Armin!)

Nokia 6670

Nokia 6670 09/23/2004 07:13 AM

nokia_6670.jpg imageNokia rarely announces just one product at a time, and today was no exception. In addition to that Remote Camera, they also have revealed the Nokia 6670, a tri-band phone (in both US and Everybody Else tunings), that looks a lot like a 7610 without the strange keypad and the gussied up case. Instead the 6670 is a fairly plain looking model - although appealing, in its way, as long as you don't mind the New Era Nokia asymmetric styling - that runs Series 60 and has a one-megapixel camera.

Nokia's plan is all starting to make a lot more sense to me now. Release the eye-catching, weirdo phones first, then release a follow up model that people with actually buy. I don't understand why that's their plan, but that seems to be it.

The 6680 has two integrated 1.3 MP cameras which will allow for easy two-way video calls and a flash. Nokia 6630

Nokia 6630 12/31/2004 10:59 AM

On Malik likes his. I wonder if I can trade out my 7610 for a 6630? Charlie?

Here's Om's post....

It is hard for me to imagine that I am carrying around in my pocket a computer that is as powerful as my first generation Pentium powered AST desktop, I wrestled with back in 1995, typing out scintiallting stories about memory chip prices for Quick Nikkei News. It seemed breezy enough, running the now forgotten Windows 3.1. With some kicking around, the TCP/IP stack on it worked for me to get Internet access as well. Fast forward by ten years, and the new Nokia 6630 packs a mightier punch - a 200 MHz ARM 5 processor - in a small but lethal package. 6630_applications.jpgThe Nokia 6630 is based on Symbian OS. It is a tri-band phone for GSM 900/1800/1900, EDGE and WCDMA networks. Weighing 127 grams and measuring 110 x 60 x 20.6 mm, it is world’s smallest megapixel phone for GSM and WCDMA networks. It has everything you would normally want in a good smart-enough phone. Clearly, this is the best 3G phone on the market, especially given that how the others are so clunky and well ugly! It is light enough that sometimes I forget it is sitting in my pocket. (more…)

You know, we just can't win with Nokia. First they send me threatening letters all last month about removing pictures of the 'Codename: Charlie' 6630 (which we dutifully, if quietly, ignored), then they screw up my peaceful Monday morning by announcing 5 new phones. Rather than give them all my precious front page space, we'll take a look at all the new phone goodness after the jump.

Grundig Mobile Announces First Phones

Grundig Mobile Announces First Phones 03/14/2005 06:02 PM

grundig_mobile.jpgGrundig, probably best known for their radios, has started up a new brand called 'Grundig Mobile,' with the obvious end of creating cellular phones. Six new phones have been announced, including two new models designed to work on DoCoMo's i-Mode systems. None of the phones are going to blow you away, so we won't get into the dirty details of each model, but it's an interesting move all the same. I've had limited experience with Grundig products, but have always been impressed with their attention to detail. Perhaps they'll be launching a high-end phone, too, with a built-in shortwave radio. (I know, but how great would that be?)

The A110 and M130 are simple VGA candybars with MP3 playering, FM radio, and Bluetooth. The M240 is a slider with a 1.3-megapixel camera. The G34i [pictured, I think] and G40i are the i-Mode phones, a candybar and a slider, respectively. Finally, the C310 is a CDMA clamshell.
