audigyvideoeditorjpg_1_.jpgCreative's announced that their newest USB Sound Blaster Audigy will include video editing capabilities, including hardware encoding and THX Certified 24-bit music playback in as high as 7.1 surround sound. The device lets you connect camcorders, TVs, VCRs and whatever else you can think of through its DV, S-Video, and composite video ins and outs, analog and digital audio in and out and also its built-in 4-port USB hub. Content editing using the device (which includes video editing software) can be converted back to its original source and played back on a TV or VCR. Perhaps recognizing that onboard audio solutions are knocking on Creative's sound processing door, this is an interesting step for Creative to take in diversifying their product line. Available later this year for $385.

Do You Own a Creative Audigy?

Do You Own a Creative Audigy? 03/22/2005 04:23 PM

If you purchased a Creative Labs Audigy series soundcard before the end of 2004, you can get 25% of the purchase price back in a class action lawsuit. The offer ends September 25th, 2005 so hurry! Go to this website address for legal documentation.

Here is more from the Inquirer ..  Creative claimed that the products in question could handle 24-bit audio at 96Khz – indeed this was stated on the product boxes in bold letters, and in all advertising. But complaints filed in 2003 pointed out that this was only true in a very limited set of circumstances, and pretty much all of the audio passing through the cards would actually be processed at lower quality… Owners of all of the original Audigy series are included in the proposed settlement. This includes the Audigy ES, Audigy Platinum, Audigy Platinum eX, Audigy Gamer, Audigy MP3+ and also the original Extigy external USB sound module. Creative did not admit liability, but graciously agreed to settle the embarrassing case. Anyone, anywhere who purchased one of these products before the end of 2004, and is unhappy with the audio processing, will be able to get 25 per cent off the cost of their next purchase from Creative's website, up to a limit of $62.50.

MacJams adds Creative Commons

MacJams adds Creative Commons 06/14/2004 09:21 PM

Several months ago, Apple released the music software Garageband, allowing anyone with a mac to make some music. Soon after the release, community websites sprang up to allow Garageband users to share music with each other, and build songs together. This is a perfect use for Creative Commons licenses, and earlier we noted that the site Macband added our licenses to their site. We were delighted to hear that MacJ ams has also incorporated Creative Commons licenses into their song uploading process.

So if you're a Garageband user that needs some drum loops or other song parts to share, check out Macband and MacJams.

Wired has a short write-up of the GarageBand (the website for musicians, not the Apple software) annoucement to include a Creative Commons license during song uploads. If you've never tried out GarageBand, sign up and give it a whirl. Listeners rate song samples as one vs. another, and you can view the top rated songs in numerous genres. There's an impressive array of music, all from unsigned bands. On the musician side of things, you can upload music and get feedback and ratings from fans, sort of like a musical HotOrNot.com.

Over at the new Flickr blog, they've announced support for Creative Commons in Flickr. Flickr's a site to share photos like no other: it's a social software application that lets you define friends and family, you can annotate photos, share photos in a live chat using an innovative interface, form groups around topics, and now you can license your photos.

If you've got a digital camera or camera phone, and don't have any place to post your photos, consider signing up for Flickr and applying a CC license to all your shots.
