Apple wins ruling against rumor site 03/14/2005 04:36 PM

Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge James Kleinberg ruled in Apple's favor on Friday and said the company could obtain records from PowerPage email provider Nfox. Lawyers for the Web site said they plan to appeal the decision. The Judge disagreed with lawyers arguements that online publications are covered by the First Amendment.

Apple Slaps Rumor Site With Lawsuit

Apple Slaps Rumor Site With Lawsuit 01/06/2005 01:50 AM

Rumor site AppleInsider got hit with a lawsuit Wednesday, in the wake of two articles leaking information on what is to be release d in the Macworld Expo next week.

The suit, filed Tuesday in the Superior Court of Santa Clara County, Calif., aims to identify who is leaking the information and to get an injunction preventing further release of trade secrets. However, in filing the suit, Apple identifies specific articles that contain trade secrets, indicating that at least parts of those reports are on the mark.

Two ways to look at this, I guess; one, that the rumors reported on AI are dead on, and Apple is wanting to keep its secrets secret. Or two, (thanks to a Gadgetopia reader/poster) is that the rumors are not true, but Apple is trying to keep the rumors from raising the public's expectations for upcoming releases, which ends up hurting Apple's stock prices.

Me? I think that Apple has some hot stuff planned for the Expo, and the headless iMac is part of it. Why else would they announce a newer/faster/no-more-expensive Xserve the week before?

I sure wouldn't want to be the guy at Apple leaking this stuff. And maybe I'll think a little harder about posting the next Apple rumor I hear about.

Do you buy the Apple Tablet rumor? 12/02/2003 01:58 AM
Ever since Bob Cringley posted his November 27th article titled, "Apple's Tablet Computer Might Finally Be That Link Between Your PC and TV" the Mac web has been abuzz in renewed Mac tablet/PDA speculation. We've heard it all before. Pre-MacWorld Expo Tablet Hysteria is as predictable as Pre-Millennium Armageddon Panic and, historically, just as likely to be accurate.

What do you say? Will 2004 be "The Year of the Tablet"? Sound off in our web poll!

With configurations starting at just $2,999, it is the ideal server for everything from file and print serving to computational clusters. Details follow...

RUMOR: Apple office software seems

RUMOR: Apple office software seems
likely
01/05/2005 02:07 PM
A small Macintosh software developer has renamed an application it had been calling iWork, lending credence to rumors that Apple plans to introduce office software of the same name.

IGG Software, which has marketed a time-billing application as iWork, has changed the program's name to iBiz. The change, which is reflected on the company's Web site, follows reports on rumor sites that Apple plans to offer its own suite of word processing and presentation software.

Enthusiast site ThinkSecret reported last week that a product from Apple called iWork would include an updated version of Apple's presentation software, Keynote, and a new word processing program, which the site says will be called Pages. The site predicted Apple would unveil the product at next week's Macworld Expo in San Francisco. Such a program would be an interesting move for Apple, which has for years kept its office software ambitions limited, counting instead on Microsoft to produce a Mac version of Microsoft Office.
