DENVER, CO - June 4, 2004 - Today, NewsGator Technologies announced
that the recently launched NewsGator Media Edition is featured in
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004's "Online Spotlight," an online

offers a central location for them to find the latest third-party
services and software, such as music, movie trailers, news updates and
even Karaoke.
NewsGator provides a mechanism for Media Center PC users to easily
find NewsGator software and services online, without having to
separately download anything from the NewsGator web site. Both text
and multimedia content is supported, and information that has not
already been viewed on another device can be displayed by
synchronizing user subscriptions with NewsGator Online Services.
"We're excited to be included in Online Spotlight - this will
dramatically increase our visibility to the many thousands of Media
Center PC users," said Greg Reinacker, President & Founder of
NewsGator Technologies.
NewsGator Media Center Edition is included as part of NewsGator
Online Services. NewsGator Online Services includes three other
content reader editions, which allow users to read content they have
subscribed to from any web browser (with Web Edition), any email
client (with POP Edition), and from a mobile wireless device (with
Mobile Edition), which is a powerful feature for road warriors who use
mobile devices to access information while on the road. The service
also provides exclusive, subscriber-only content to its subscribers,
as well as the ability to search for content that matches a specific
keyword or URL, and return that content in a feed. NewsGator Online
Services pricing starts at $5.95/month per user.
"Media Center PCs allow consumers to have faster and more efficient
access to all of their favorite digital content when, where, and how
they want," said Brad Brooks, Director of Marketing at Microsoft Corp.
"With the NewsGator Media Center Edition, NewsGator Technologies is
delivering a complementary and innovative service that will let Media
Center Edition PC users easily access their customized choice of news
services."
More about NewsGator Media Center Edition
This is the latest step in the "any time, any place, any device"
strategy that distinguishes the NewsGator product line. NewsGator
Online Services allows users to read one set of content from any
device, without duplication. The combined power of NewsGator Media
Center Edition and Online Services offers customers a productive and
fun way to access their personalized subscriptions and information
from any device, whenever they need it.

Windows XP Starter Edition Revealed
06/23/2004 03:41 PMMicrosoft is currently planning a new edition to the Windows XP family
of operating systems, namely "Starter Edition". Starter Edition is the
name of a previously announced effort to deliver a tailored and
localized Windows product to Thailand and Malaysia, as part of
Microsofts efforts to enable access to technology. Previous rumours
suggested that Windows XP Starter Edition would include a set of
applications on top of the standard Windows XP installation (including
Office 2003). We cannot confirm these reports but are awaiting a
statement from Microsoft Press.

Microsoft Corp. announced Windows® Media Connect, technology designed
to enable hardware manufacturers to easily develop devices such as
Digital Media Receivers (DMRs), which have rich functionality for
playing digital media files stored on personal computers over home
networks. A broad range of industry leaders have announced their
support of this upcoming technology, including leading PC OEMs and
consumer electronics device manufacturers including Arcadyan

Revealed - Magneto
01/04/2005 03:07 PMTomorrow at
CES it's likely that Bill Gates will further
unveil parts of Microsoft's plans for the next generation of Windows
Mobile. Currently in beta testing, Magneto is the code-name for what
is expected to be finally named as Windows Mobile 2005.
Microsoft is progressing well with Magneto and is currently running a
Beta 2 (v5.0.1512 Build 14207) dogfood test internally. The first
release candidate of Magneto is expected on the 16th February with an
RTM following on the 13th April. Currently Microsoft are only testing
Magneto on the Motorola MPx220 Smartphone. This indicates that the
device will be able to be upgraded sometime this year. It's unclear
what others devices will be supported for upgrade.
Magento promises a lot of improvements from previous versions of
Windows Mobile including some major UI overhaul. Microsoft are
improving the contacts part of Windows Mobile.
ActiveSync 4 (currently in beta at v4.0.0
Build 4200) will allow the synchronisation of Outlook contact
pictures. This will be for both
smartphone users and
Pocket PC users. There will be improved
finger accessibility of communications methods on Pocket PC and a new
International address parser meaning that each country will be
properly parsed and the addresses/phone numbers recognised.
Media support will be improved upon. Users will be able to watch a
picture slideshow, send pictures via
email, or set pictures as a homescreen background.
Windows Media Player 10.x Mobile
will ship with Magento with improved Media Library + Browsing, robust
play list support, improved Media Sync, Album art and rating and
improved skins. Improvements in Windows Media Player will allow for
Pluggable file and streaming formats and codec's and Hardware decode
assist. The latest Janus DRM support will also be available.
Pocket PC users will be pleased to hear that Microsoft are creating a
"Pocket PC Persistent Store". The annoying thing with
current Windows Mobile versions is the loss of data if you forget to
charge your device, the Pocket PC Persistent Store will elimate this
even if you don't charge. Pocket PC users will be able to use
PowerPoint Mobile, to view decks on the go before presentations.
Improvements in Word will allow users to View/edit text, charts,
lists, bullets.
Improvements in Excel will allow
users to View/edit/roundtrip charts (bar, column, pie, area, line and
scatter).
Internet Explorer Mobile will be improved upon.
Full screen viewing, a
progress bar to help users gauge
download progress and a security icon to indicate when secure pages
are being accessed.
Windows Mobile 2005 will
support Wi-fi for smartphones. A
big step and a big step in the right direction. WPA will be supported
and users will be able to talk on their phones whilst using Wi-fi.
Microsoft will actively support VoIP via Wi-Fi for Enterprise
customers.
One of the most exciting things about Magento is the increased user
interface customisation. There is a dialling canvas for UI and
functionality, title bar icon flexibility and
grid view for smartphones.
