The video technology has been ratified by the DVD Forum for use in the High Definition (HD) DVD format; it was jointly developed by the Motion Picture Expert's Group (MPEG) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and has been ratified into the MPEG-4 specification as well.

Apple on Thursday announced that more than 250 million copies of its QuickTime 6 software have been downloaded in less than two years since its release. QuickTime is Apple's cornerstone multimedia technology architecture: It provides ways to view video, listen to audio and edit content as well. QuickTime is built into hundreds of digital cameras, thousands of enhanced audio CDs, games, and other products.
