Anti-Nofollow FUD

Anti-Nofollow FUD

Anti-Nofollow FUD 02/01/2005 09:07 PM

Seems like the concerted effort of the comment spammers to spread FUD about the nofollow initiative is working. Jeremy Zawodny just linked to an anti-nofollow site that claims to be a parody. But things are not always what they seem. Take a look at the ads at the bottom: Text...

Rogers Cadenhead: This sounds good, though it officially abandons the pretense that Google's search algorithm is tailored to the linking behavior of Web users, rather than the other way around. The lines between us and them is blurry.  Everything is intertwingled.  Whether we admitted it before or not. My urls contain dashes instead of underscores because google likes them better.  My <title>s are meaningful for similar reasons. In return, I get a more traffic from Google.

JSPWiki supports now the

JSPWiki supports now the
rel="nofollow" attribute
02/01/2005 09:48 PM
JSPWiki hates spam too. Starting from the current CVS version (2.1.140) JSPWiki supports the Google initiative for reducing comment and wiki spam. Administrators may set the "jspwiki.translatorReader.useRelNofollow" parameter to force the rel="nofollow" attribute to be added to any external links.

(Other than that, we're - or to be more precise, Andrew Jaquith is - doing a complete rework of the authentication system. This means that it will not be available in 2.2, but will be postponed to 2.4. Personally, I find this a great relief - adding the auth system to the wiki nearly killed my interest to JSPWiki development. Wikis and strong permission control just don't go well together. There has been now a lot of new development in the CVS, as I don't have to worry about the auth system anymore.)

Charlie Daniels' anti-anti-war rant

Charlie Daniels' anti-anti-war rant 03/15/2003 10:13 PM
Musician Charlie Daniels is disgusted by Hollywood types who oppose Bush's plan to invade Iraq.
You people are some of the most disgusting examples of a waste of protoplasm I’ve ever had the displeasure to hear about.

Sean Penn, you’re a traitor to the United States of America. You gave aid and comfort to the enemy. How many American lives will your little, ”fact finding trip“ to Iraq cost? You encouraged Saddam to think that we didn’t have the stomach for war.

You people protect one of the most evil men on the face of this earth and won’t lift a finger to save the life of an unborn baby.

Freedom of choice you say?

Anti-Facism 01/07/2005 04:18 AM
Need the antidote to the current administration? 133 years ago, Mikhail Bakunin laid the groundwork for anarchism as a rational political system in his seminal work God and the State. Strongly critical of the dehumanizing effects of religion, Bakunin famously paraphrased Voltaire when he proclaimed, "if God really existed, it would be necessary to abolish him." If you can't make hide nor hair of the President's words, perhaps Bakunin's rationalism is what you're looking for.

Anti-Americanism 09/15/2004 05:19 PM
The World's Most Dangerous Ideas: U.S. and European goals on most issues are quite similar. Both want a peaceful world free from terror, with open trade, growing freedom, and civilized codes of conduct. A Europe that charts its own course just to mark its differences from the United States threatens to fracture global efforts—whether on trade, proliferation, or the Middle East. Europe is too disunited to achieve its goals without the United States; it can only ensure that America’s plans don’t succeed. The result will be a world that muddles along, with the constant danger that unattended problems will flare up disastrously. Instead of win-win, it will be lose-lose—for Europe, for the United States, and for the world.

Anti-Static Pen 03/22/2005 04:46 PM

static_pen.jpg imageThose of us who dabble inside of their PCs have surely, at one time, concerned themselves with static electricity. Sure you can take some precautions like getting one of those retarded looking wrist things or touching some metal object. But why would you want to do that when you can now spend $29 on a "Static Zapper Pen?" When I first read the product name, I thought the pen could actually zap people (like a pen tazer), but I shed a tear to learn that it is for preventing static shocks.

AdBusters sues for right to air anti-ads 09/16/2004 01:40 AM
Cory Doctorow: AdBusters is suing Canadian broadcasters for refusing to air their anti-ad ads.
Activists concerned with almost every social issue -- from the environment, worker rights, electoral politics . . . you name it – have had their messages rejected by media corporations. If you walked into your local television station today and tried to buy 30-seconds of airtime, you would likely get the same response we continually get. Boiled down, the refrain goes something like this: We will not accept your money. We will not accept your messages. We're in the business to sell ads, not spread your ideas.
